LAKECREST
Lakecrest is a bustling city outside of Elkhorn and the distance takes thirty minutes by car on highway. It hasn't been much of a city before the "Rip". Now, with the news of precious resources, various supernaturals have made Lakecrest their home and it is now a bustling city that continues to thrive. It is to no one's surprise that major factions have settled territories in the city, but they've kept the peace and usually settle their disputes "physically" within Elkhorn. Now, Lakecrest is filled with not just humans, but with Mystic Kind residents that reside in their own homes and work in their own respective workplaces. As a result of this, there's a mass mixing of cultures going on in the city scene. Shopping districts and the entertainment districts especially have been rather diverse because of this.
Laws have been in place to rise above racial and cultural prejudice. And for the most part, they're doing their job sufficiently. However, the society continues to have some discomfort being in the presence of other races. Schools are still doing their job to bring forth a future that is more lacking in such prejudices. Most people do mix well, regardless, as they continue to live together in the same city. And that becomes especially important with the threats of Horrors coming up in the city.
ELKHORN CITY AND THE OTHERWORLD
Elkhorn was a special place that is known for its unique spiritual affinity and numerous leylines. Once inhabited by Native American tribes, it became known as a holy place and an area under the jurisdiction of a local deity. Whatever this place or its deity was called, no one knew anymore. It's become lost knowledge because of what is going to happen next. With the encroachment of Westerners, the former inhabitants were routed out and the newcomers took their place. These newcomers were undoubtedly Christian, yet there was one notable bad apple who was burnt to the stake for her "heretical" and "nefarious" beliefs. A woman who went by the name of Dahlia Wulf, a suspected pagan from Germany.
Nevertheless, she was not alone as other members of her belief stowed themselves away in secrecy that held on for centuries. Slowly, the cult grew gradually in power as they bid their time. They were careful not to advertise themselves as the existence of the Church and the Night Wolves would have easily eliminated their existence. It is by the 1980's when the supernatural was more universally accepted, that the Cult was throwing away their secrecy and posed as a "peaceful" religion. However, supernaturals, both humans and Mystic Kind, have given reports that was not the case as killings for rituals and to hide a drug dealing business came to light. There was even a report covering a possible summoning of a transcendent Horror through possession and a possible Foreign Demon/Horror Outbreak.
Both the Church and the I.A.C.S.B. mobilized to stop this. The conflict have begun on January of 2008, yet while they have prevented its reincarnation, the results of their efforts led to a "rip" in the boundaries between the Spiritual Realm and the Physical Realm. While the Elkhorn's Central Park does lead to unexplored territory of the Spiritual Realm replete with precious and powerful resources, Elkhorn is now besieged by random occurrences of the Otherworld. A hellish realm in which the Elkhorn City abruptly takes on a hellish and nightmarish background full of Horrors for a specific amount of time which spans over the whole city and no one may leave until it is over. Interestingly enough, by the time this realm passes by, only a second has passed by in the real world. Magicians all over the world are stumped by this predicament as this is the first time it ever happened in history both mundane and supernatural.
What's even more fearsome about the Otherworld is that sometimes it may give birth to monstrous manifestations of a person's own "darkness" from their own guilt, sins, hatred, and any form of negative burden. But most of the time, these manifestations are Horrors that have been molded by the city's malice before the intervention of the I.A.C.S.B. and the Church. Nevertheless, it may not take long before it starts creating new manifestations of the newcomers coming to flood through the Rip for precious resources. However, there has been concern as the intervals that the Otherworld manifests are gradually becoming longer and the radius of the realm is starting to spread out of Elkhorn. It is even worrying that the Cult continues to exist and no one has any idea of what they're doing as of this moment.
