HYBRID INTRODUCTION
The children of man and monster; hybrids make up an uneasy minority in the world; stuck between the larger groups of actual humans and actual supernatural species. While their name might make one assume they are simply the product of breeding between the two species, this is not often the case – as one might imagine, the two groups are rarely compatible. Instead, most hybrids are caused by the influence of the supernatural beings’ essences being passed onto a human; possibly through rituals, possessions, magical fusions, extractions and infusions of fluids or other examples of its essence.
Some are merely humans touched by the supernatural in this manner, barely recognisable among other humans or easily mistaken for minor mages with their hint of supernatural power – the hybrid heritage has been watered down by generations of hybrids and authentic humans interbreeding or the original connection was a faint one to begin with. However, others could be said to be more beast than human; barely able to form a humanoid guise to begin with; though these are few and far between. Werewolves, vampires; and other supernatural beings that are originally human and ‘turn’ to being supernatural beings do not count as hybrids – they are separate species, rather than crossbreeds.
In the current day and age, most hybrids have disappeared into society to avoid the fear and awe that follow them or have left society to seek refuge in isolation; as they are generally met with disregard from both their human and supernatural progenitors. While they lack any faction iconic of their kind, they can often be found among others; respected or exploited for their supernatural talents, or perhaps they have simply hidden them so well they are misinterpreted as other kinds of human skill or magic in the first place… perhaps they themselves do not even realise the reason behind their powers. Of course, the only organisation that honestly accepts them outright is the I.A.C.S.B., but they could surely sneak among others; albeit with utmost care.
Most hybrids at this point are the product of multiple generations of human breeding following the original instance of supernatural essence being added to the bloodline – human-spirit interrelations are rarely quite so… convenient as to allow for the birth of hybrids, let alone ones that can function on a human level. As the generations of humans go on, that essence that is passed on is diluted more and more, at least not without proper reconnecting rituals or other methods of infusion to recreate the original level of essence. Of course, there is the rare instances of hybrids being born in current times via rituals and infusions and thus altering regular humans into hybrids – but these practices are scorned by almost all of supernatural society, making them an incredibly dangerous practice.
Perhaps the most publicised but easily forgotten part of being a hybrid though is the isolation and scorn, which has often lead to violence, suicide or other disasters. To realise and recognise you are not human is a painful thing for many; and to distance yourself from humanity is a dangerous practice in the first place. There are many stories of hybrids simply getting too linked to their inhuman progenitors and segregating themselves from humanity – some see themselves as superior and lash out at the population in spite and disgust, some see themselves as inferior and become hermits or commit suicide in disbelief and shame. And for the rare few that walk among the rest of humanity… many wish they had never realised their history in the first place.

HYBRID LIMITATIONS
- Like humans, Hybrids are typically bound to F-ranks as their norm and E-rank for peak cases – however, their heritage allows them to surpass humanity’s limits. Every Hybrid has different potentials and backgrounds, though; so this is never a straightforward thing to define; some simply have superhuman physical capabilities in one field or another, while others may be able to conjure magic akin to their progenitors.
- Hybrids can try to become Magicians, Ki Artists, and the like just like regular humans. However, their affinities are shaped by their heritage, so they may struggle with paths that do not match their abilities or natures. Factions often look down upon Hybrids, so they will likely find to increasingly hard to find tutelage or opportunities in most of these paths.
- Hybrids cannot mix with a being that is not of their essence – they cannot be a three-way hybrid. The alternate essence will simply be rejected by their body.
- Hybrids are divided between Pre-1945 Generations and Post-1945 Generations. The former are limited to B rank in their Hybrid abilities/techniques as they have had years of getting used to their monstrous side and are less susceptible of having their behavior being influenced by it. However, they can reach up to S rank in those capabilities as well if they partake in rituals and other means. The latter Post-1945 is the near-complete opposite as they already can go up to A rank in their Hybrid powers. To reach S rank, they require rituals and other means as well.
- Hybrid stats limited by their Monstrous Heritage rank. Refer to Monstrous Heritage and Hybrid Stats in this page.
- Some Hybrids may need transformations to gain access to their Hybrid stats and powers. This will depend on rank and other factors. This is referring to their Transformation Stats. Others won't need it, but will have their stats limited based on their Monstrous Heritage rank.
- Since they have a human side, Hybrids have fewer weaknesses than full-blooded Mystic Kind. A beginning Hybrid may start with two weaknesses.
HERITAGE
While there are no outright skills or abilities for Hybrids, the below Hybrid section will be added to their profiles which outlines their essence-based traits. It has been coded out for you below so you can simply copy and paste. Please place this below the Capabilities Section on the character template.
Lineage: The species they have the essence of goes here.
Generation: (Pre-1945 or Post-1945, when the bloodline started.)
History: Give a brief history of the essence’s original source and any interaction with it through the generations here – keep it simple and to the point. If the character or their relatives got their essence through a ritual or an infusion, describe it here. Any efforts to upkeep or further dilute the essence should also be explained here.
Synchronization: A description of how 'synchronized' the character's inhuman and human natures are. A violent person with the essence from an Oni, for example, would be generally more synchronized since they do not struggle against their inhuman side's inclinations to be violent - on the other hand, a violent person with the essence from a more passive supernatural being such as a Fae would find it frustrating and psychologically stressful to resist their inhuman side's inclinations to avoid conflicts.
Associated Traits: (This is where you explain what your character is capable of as a Hybrid.)
Name: (Self-explanatory.)
Description: (A description of the trait and its effects on the person. If it is just an altered form, describe it and its physical traits here – if it includes separate abilities or spells, explain them in separate traits. Explain the character’s major weaknesses or groups of linked weaknesses that are associated to their bloodline in separate traits.)
Rank: (Refer to the basic Skills/Abilities rankings for an idea of how to judge the traits. Particular techniques and spells based on their heritage should be treated like actual techniques and spells. Traits that are weaknesses or purely aesthetic are ranked F.)
Techniques: (Applications of Hybrid powers here)

GENERAL HYBRID SKILLS/ABILITIES LIST
These are Skills/Abilities are to be listed in the Capabilities section since these are what they are capable of when they don't rely on their monstrous nature. Except for one Ability which is an indicator of how far they have gone as a "monster/horror", Monstrous Heritage. Even that ability is to be put into the Capabilities section.
Skills: You may take up skills from the Human Skills list. Magician and Ki Art lists as well if it applies to your character.
Abilities: The same with abilities. But one ability is mandatory for anyone making a Hybrid.
Name: Monstrous Heritage.
