PERSONAL INFORMATION
Image:
Appearance: A young man with black hair, brown eyes, and a light complexion, Shin stands at a moderate five feet, seven inches and weighing in at roughly 150 pounds. He's got a light, acrobatic build, and it's clear he has a pretty large amount of muscle. He tends to favor clothing that lets him move, focusing on baggy pants or shorts and t-shirts, or even no shirt at all if the situation works for it. He never leaves home without his cap and skateboard, which are near mainstays of his outfit. He holds himself loosely, almost as if he's flowing in the wind, and moves like he's in a hurry just about all the time.
Personality: Something of an idiot kid, he prefers to think of himself as someone who's always in the thick of things. Always moving, never stopping, living life in the fast lane. Common sense dictates that he'd slow down eventually, but that hasn't kicked in yet. While it has him in a dead-end job delivering pizza, it also has him enjoying freedom in a way that most people don't. While people get stuck in nine-to-five and slowly dying inside, he makes more than enough to keep himself thanks to some handy meditation reducing food costs to near zero. As such, he spends his free time exploring, and his use of a skateboard means he gets money ironically faster than car deliverymen, he knows the winding paths of the city and can generally get where he needs to go faster than people clogged in traffic.
This extends to his contact with other people. He's a bouncy, energetic center of attention that's always getting into some stunt, whether it's a fight or some drunken escapade. Life's a big party to him, and that can be charismatic to some people. As it stands, he just likes seeing people around him be happy, especially if he gets to look cool in the process.
While this would seem rather incompatible with the life of a ki-artist, Shin has never found it to be that way. His practice is something he just does, almost like breathing. Meditation saving him time sleeping and eating, he keeps up with his practice in that extra time. He views it as another thing he does for fun, and always enjoys the rush of a good fight. Despite his lackadaisical attitude, the hours he puts in made him decidedly competent, if far from a master.
His reaction to obstacles and stumbling blocks comes from his fast-paced life. Like a skateboarder, he lives off obstacles, he uses them to make his crazy tricks seem all the better. He's got a knack for finding the best way out of a thorny situation, and a natural luck to help him sail smoothly. That's not to say he's never crashed and burned either, but he also packs a fierce determination to pick himself back up.
What he looks for in friends is people who can keep up with him, or, failing that, people who are willing to wait until he zooms back around. He's not an inattentive friend, but he has so much going on that unless you can keep up with his energy you're likely going to be exhausted, or waiting a bit until he makes his rounds. If you fit those qualities, you'll find him a close friend, willing to go to lengths normally reserved for close friends to help recent acquaintances. If people take advantage of him for that, he shrugs it off and keeps on rolling.
History: Shin was born in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, a fate not envied by many. Within the confines of North Korea, regimented and poverty-stricken as it was, Shin managed to escape the worst of things. His parents were people of some means, while at the level of Comrade, they received superior lodging and food as scientists of the State. He, on the other hand, was merely average in school, certainly not enough to join his parents in scientific pursuits and better suited to the laborer or the soldier. He didn't necessarily mind, he lived life as he saw fit. He soon became famous as the scamp of the neighborhood, pulling tricks and getting into messes faster and with less reserve than other children did. He was treated as a leader in that regard, and while his parents scolded him for it, they couldn't help admire the fiery spirit he had.
This would have been fine...but it soon became apparent that the rambunctious child they were raising, as he refused to slow down and approached his tens, would likely either be shot or broken in by mandatory military service. Not wanting either of them for their child, they began to hatch a plan. They were going to escape. Weighing their options, they saw three choices. Brave the Demilitarized Zone and make a break for South Korea, something likely to get them shot, cross into China, where they may be expatriated and sentenced to the Kwan-Li-So, the prison death camps for “traitors,” or try to sneak aboard a ship. Eventually, they decided on the latter.
They were lucky. The boat they had snuck aboard was a cargo vessel bound for Taiwan, the capitalist democracy that stood in defiance to mainland China. They were able to keep stowed away until they were more than halfway across, after which the Taiwanese merely sighed and accepted them as refugees. Able to speak Mandarin, they were able to assimilate fairly painlessly, though adapting to the new area and work climate made his father complain sometimes about the comfortable life they had left behind.
Shin never saw it like that. From that point, he grew up in awe of his parents, them lacking fear and decisively taking action heedless of the consequences. He admired that, and modeled his life around that. Unfortunately for said parents, this only increased his wild antics, and eventually they decided that he needed some help with discipline. Ignoring his father's sideways jibs that the military would have taken care of that, Shin offers to focus on martial arts. With some reservations, his parents agree, even letting him choose which one to take. They're not stupid...they know that he coudln't be forced into one he would get bored with. He'd need to choose.
His choice startled him. A small dojo, ran by an old man. One that didn't preach immediate action, but a focus on meditation. They couldn't understand what would have driven their son into it. Little did they know that Shin had seen the old man practice his Ki, and begged to be taught. The old man also initially thought that he would grow bored if shown the patience and meditation required to master Gentle Hurricane, but Shin stuck with it. He wasn't the type to give up on something he set his mind to. What surprised him more was that the boy had a natural talent for Ki, and as such, after he was taught the forms, meditation, and application, began to be taught the skills that made Gentle Hurricane what it was.
His parents were pleased. The meditation and focus on balance had done wonders for the child. He hadn't really slown down, but he seemed to channel his excess energy into more fruitful avenues. He had begun to learn skateboarding, and used it to develop a skill that would continue on his life, city-riding, and making money off of it as a delivery boy. Taking boxes of food around Taipei, he had a reputation for getting it fast and hot, though more than once he had to pay off a misstep. But as he had gotten better and better with Gentle Hurricane, such missteps stopped happening. A common use he had for his Ki was to adjust his movements after such adjustments should be impossible, often seeming like the wind is blowing in a particular favorable way. This can allow him to stick dangerous landings or, as was demonstrated, ensure the delivery of devastating kicks or throws.
At the age of sixteen, he was approached by the Martial Forest Coalition. They were recommended to him by his teacher, who said that he was ready to join, or to wash his hands. He was happy to join. While his parents were less than enthused about him leaving, the money he was being paid, the majority of which going to them and done so consistently month after month soon convinced them that this was a good thing. Shin himself enjoyed it. He got to see new sites, scope out new places, train under more people and fight strong opponents. He really couldn't complain.

Skills:
Name: Martial Arts Literacy
Description: The understanding of martial techniques and tactics from drawing upon prior experience in combat and training that has been ingrained in the body. It allows a martial artist to analyze and comprehend the mechanics of other martial arts. This does not mean they can effectively counter the technique/tactic right away. At most it should be seen as a means to better deal against them. Ki Artists would be able to understand how Ki techniques work.
Rank:E
Name: Free-Running
Description: The discipline of getting from Point A to B efficiently. It is a skill that allows one to climb up structures/obstructions or jump/run across them with little to no injury. Parkour requires a regimen like those of gymnastics and the willingness to make risks to get to the desired destination. Shin can get around cityscapes extraordinarily quickly through the use of his skateboard or on foot, a skill honed from years of practice.
Rank:E
Name: Streetwise
Description: Shin has been traveling around urban landscapes since he was a small child, and has a feel for how the locations work. He's got a knack for getting people to spill beans and find his way around.
Rank:E
Name: Unarmed Melee (Wu Shu)
Description: The capability to use his/her own body as a weapon. To attack using fists, feet, and other parts of the body in combat. Striking, grappling, and throwing are some of the three types of attacks the body is capable of using against others depending on what style that is being used. Rank E would be basic training, while rank D would be an expert – ranks above these are more akin to Hollywood martial arts heroes. Wu Shu is a loose confederation of different Chinese martial arts, though the one most relevant to Gentle Hurricane is Chanquan. Focusing on counters to attacks, the style intends to use the opponents strength against them, utilizing superior flexibility and mobility to take the advantage. It takes a great deal of agility and flexibility to perform, rivaling that of gymnastics.

Abilities:
Name: Ki Manipulation
Description: The ability to manipulate Ki. This is made possible through training and meditation to unlock a person's Ki Center. Rank:E
Name: Ki Sense
Description:From being able to control the body's Ki, the user is now sensitive to Ki signatures around them. Through such sensitivity, the Artists can now sense people's presences by this and be able differentiate one signature against each person. The term "killing intent" comes from this as usually one's Ki rises with the intent to cause harm. All Artists have at least E rank at it and sometimes do not increase it as they are busy trying to perfect their fighting techniques. This is why some of them go to the I.A.C.S.B. for experience. Extremely high levels of this ability may even lead to a blind man being able to fight better than he could actually see if he had working eyes.
Rank:E
Name: Environmental Awareness

It takes effect both in his personal life, such as helping him stick key dangerous landings off skateboard jumps, or in combat, letting him strike from angles the opponent couldn't have possibly suspected.
