While still sulking, the promise of tea distracted Lili somewhat… not due to any interest in tea – she honestly preferred coffee, if she really had to drink something – but the fact that Arwen was the one presenting it. The would-be wolf hesitated for a moment… she really ought to stand her ground in this case, since she was in a sour mood, but… Arwen said so, so she had to! Although still seeming a bit unhappy, Lili would settle on a chair by the table and take her tea. She’d just stare at Lucian for his hesitance, though. She wasn’t quite ignorant of his anxiety… no, in fact, she could just about smell it. It wasn’t something unfamiliar to her, given her demeanour… The tea was not to the wolf’s tastes, but she swallowed it down greedily anyway – perhaps even moreso because it wasn’t to her tastes, in fact. It did bring back a pinch of nostalgia, at least… someone else who liked sweet tea a lot. But alas, for now she was bored again. So she would simply return to watching the pair. Arwen, as intent on her cooking skills as ever – Lili did not see the appeal of putting so much work into it herself, but the thought was flattering nonetheless. And Lucian… well, he was still – Meat, meat! Wahoo! Immediately perking up at the familiar scent, Lili put two and two together from Arwen’s cooking choices and from the scents in the air – rhythmical thudding would start to sound around the room as the girl’s tail wagged excitedly. With just that alone, the sulky air around her disappeared entirely; replaced with a certain simple happiness that only a dog could carry… or maybe an idiot. Regardless, Lili seemed all smiles and butterflies (minus the smiles) now, waiting eagerly for her treat. Arwen wasn’t one to keep her waiting, thankfully; and soon the little wolf was met with a wonderful meal – to many, it might have seemed tacky or simply bizarre as a homemade lunch; but to Lili it was a dream come true. It was basically fast food served by Arwen! The best thing possible! Well, not quite…if she curl up on her lap afterwards then that’d be a bigger win. Oh, or maybe she could… ah, that would probably be a bit rude, actually… Still, Lucian would promptly disappear from Lili’s radar as she dug in with far more tenacity than a girl her size ought to have – she liked her meat, to say the least. And her expression showed the same story, for once; after her first huge bite the little wolf just seemed to glow for a moment with a tiny relaxed smile, eyes closed yet totally calm. Satisfaction… thy name is a lovely hamburger made by someone you love. ”…did I do something good today…?”

It seemed that both of the people I was serving lunch to were quite happy with it, Lili was to be expected, given her love for meat. I made sure to make it far more healthy than the hamburgers that one could get from a fast food place, so it actually would likely be fairly good for her given what I had observed in her eating habits. I had put plenty of toppings on it that would be healthier, as well as using only fresh, organic ingredients, so she wouldn't be getting those preservatives that were put into food so often these days. I also used a lot less fat and grease than a fast food restaurant, using lean meat instead of more fatty meat, but making sure to have just enough that it would still be delicious. Cooking was always about walking a fine balance between nutrition and taste, and a good cook didn't have to sacrifice either. "Nothing in particular, Lili. I just felt like giving back for all the good work you do normally. It's always easy to forget when people do small things every day, so I always make sure to give back every so often to cover anything I might have inadvertently let go unrewarded," I said, giving her quite the smile before continuing. "I'm just glad that you both are enjoying the food I made you, even if one of us has a bit of a dirty mouth," I said, gently teasing Lucian about his swearing when he said how much he liked the food, "Though I am glad you appreciated it so much you couldn't contain yourself, Lucian." I genuinely was happy that he enjoyed my food so much, giving him a big smile. I was aware that many people didn't share my own attitude about swearing, so I never blamed them for it. Deciding to dig into my own food, I first had to give thanks for it. Putting my hands to my heart and closing my eyes, I took a deep breath in and out, and began to give thanks for the food in elven, the way my mother told me. "Thank you, earth, for this meal you have provided for me. Thank you for the plants and meat that sustains us, thank you for the minerals that flavor it and nourish us, thank you for the energy used to cook it, and thank you for the ability to share it with those important to us." Taking another deep breath and opening my eyes, I began to eat, alternating between hamburger and fries, eating elegantly, but likely faster than most people would think someone of my size to be able to. Taking a small break from eating, with a good half of each eaten, I turned to Lucian and began to make a bit of small talk, "So Lucian, what brought you here to work at the IACSB? I myself was sent to represent my family here. They see the potential in this organization and want to establish good ties with them. I am just a tad curious, no need to answer if you don't want to." I gave him a smile of encouragement, and tried to make him as comfortable as possible here. I then continued to eat, waiting for his response and to see what Lili might do.

Lucian
The sheer appearance of the food seemed to lighten the mood immensely. That flash of moodiness that came from Lili dissipated almost completely as she joined me in chowing down on Arwen's cooking. Lili seemed to think it was some sort of reward, which Arwen confirmed that it sort of was? I still didn't fully understand the dynamic between the two, but I imagined that would come with time. Seeing how they worked as partners on jobs and the like. I also got chastised for my swearing...and that was bad. I barely cursed at all there. Normally I was far, far worse, but something about Arwen made me want to...think a bit more carefully about that. Tch.
Still, I wasn't about to apologize for that.
I continued eating while Arwen gave some sort of prayer in...was that elven? It sounded vaguely, vaguely familiar. Sarah had used a few elven terms as well but it sounded like Arwen was better versed in the language than she had ever been. Probably had her elven blood in her immediate family rather than her ancestry, or something. Or maybe it was just because she was a mage and they sometimes studied that crap? Then she started to dig in with us. With more grace, sure, but she was keeping up with me and the she-wolf.
Arwen then asked me why I had joined up with the IACSB. Evidently her family saw "potential" in the organization and she was here to establish good ties. Well surely she could do that without actually working for them, right? Unless she genuinely wanted to. Either way her base reasoning was simple enough. Honestly it was similar to mine, minus the whole family thing. I was about to try and speak with my mouth half-full but decided I really didn't want to get teased or chastised for that too. So I chewed and swallowed my food first, feeling remarkably like a five year old, before replying.
"I joined up because it's safe. Family is less likely to be targeted for hate crimes if I'm not seen with them. I'm less likely to hurt others here, too." I stated rather bluntly. That wasn't the whole truth, though, so I continued. "I also want to really...understand my abilities. Get a grip on them and control them completely, but I want to do it in a manner that'll help others and not hurt them. Best way is to turn them against mystic kind that abuse their abilities on the masses or, better yet, the horrors. Maybe I'll set a good example for other hybrids, too. Maybe if people know a half-daemon is protecting them they won't be so damned quick to judge."
Ice Cream. I had to take a breath and immediately stuff my mouth with another bite of burger. I was riling myself up with that last train of thought. I couldn't let myself taste that much anger, especially from myself. That's how bad things happened.
Still, that had...turned into a longer speech than I wanted it to. Seriously, what the hell was with me today?
Ugh, but it was true. All of it. I didn't really mind them knowing, but at the same time I still didn't feel entirely comfortable sharing it. Likely because I hadn't shared my reasoning with anyone yet. Still, I took another bite out of my burger, finishing it off.

As was no doubt expected, Arwen’s flattery just made the little wolf utterly overjoyed; tail wagging excitedly while Lili’s silver hair now framed a bright smile, her emotionless demeanour easily overwhelmed by the words of her dearest friend. She was a Good Girl! And Arwen said she was great! Arwen loved her! The encouragement only seemed to make the canine even more hungry; cleaning her plate with ease – though it was only natural for a dog to have such an appetite. However, her eyes then narrowed – did this mean Arwen was giving her thanks to this stranger, too? Was Lili not good enough to deserve a reward on her own? Was this man already as important to Arwen as her?! Her smile was promptly wiped off her face; returning her to her typical blank look… Arwen gave her usual prayer, much to Lili’s amusement. She always found all those traditions rather funny. In fact, she found most of culture funny. Maybe she was a freak among freaks for being a hybrid that didn’t really know her own race’s culture, but her parents had never seen it fit to teach her anything, so assumedly it didn’t matter much. ”Thanks earth. Food is nice. Arwen is nice too.” remarked the wolf idly, mimicking Arwen’s tone with about as much success as one could expect given her usual bluntness. While she couldn’t understand Elven, Arwen had given her an explanation of the prayer before… for what it was worth. ”Oh, introductions. I killed someone and got in trouble. The IACSB said I should do something different or the Church would be mad at my friend, so I’m here now.” explained Lili idly as she hopped up from the table, knowing that Arwen would probably call upon her story for this conversation sooner or later – best get it out of the way early. ”I don’t really like it, but I get Arwen and nice clothes so I guess it’s okay. I miss mom and dad and Hanna, though.” added the girl succinctly, before returning to hovering around Arwen’s side again – content, if still a bit jealous. ”Arwen, I’m bored. Do you want a massage again? Or can Lili run you a bath? Are you tired? Would you like a snack? Anything, anything.” chirped the wolf incessantly, now especially eager to please given Arwen’s earlier attention, waiting expectantly for orders… her Loup Garou heritage was not the most subtle. ”Woof.”

It seemed that Lucian indeed had a sad past, at least from what I could glean from his reasons for being here. His reasons were rather practical, to say the least. It seemed that he indeed had it far rougher as a hybrid than I ever did. His family was likely targeted by anti-hybrid activists, and he himself likely was attacked on more than one occasion if he was coming to the SID for safety. It also seemed that his heritage was further back in his family than my own, since he wanted to learn more about his heritage by coming here.
He also seemed to be very interested in giving hybrids a better image, perhaps for a bit of selfish reasons, but still commendable nonetheless. Taking a small break from eating I began to reply to him. "It seems like you have had quite the terrible past, Lucian. Every time I hear the story of a fellow hybrid, I remember just how thankful I am for having being born in the circumstances I was. My father is of minor nobility as many English mages are, and my mother is a runaway from an elven tribe. Luckily for me and my siblings, the manor was in the country far away from city life, and our family at least begrudgingly accepting of my father's choice," I said, explaining my own circumstances to Lucian. In truth, I did indeed have it very good compared to a large majority of hybrids, and I realized it every day.
Lili then explained her own circumstances, and given her current mental state, it was a tiny bit abridged so I felt the need to clarify a bit on it."If I may, I can give a bit of a clarification. Lili was acting in self-defense as a church agent came after her. The IACSB intervened in the proceedings to keep the church from harming her and her friend who was also involved," I said, making a bit more of a cohesive narrative out of what Lili had said. After all, it could have been misconstrued that Lili was just a simple murderer instead of a victim of circumstances, like she actually was. I could not stand to let her, who had been through so much, end up viewed as a murderer for no good reason at all. She wasn't a perpetrator, she was a victim of her circumstances.
It seemed that Lili was getting a tad impatient with her circumstances, and as a result her Loup Garou heritage was beginning to show more than usual even in her hybrid form. She offered a few things and I decided to address them, and possibly admonish her for being rude to our guest. "Now now, Lili, while I appreciate the offer I don't think any of those are---" I was interrupted by something totally unexpected. She had just said 'Woof'. Not barked, but just said it in her normal tone of voice. I had absolutely no idea how to respond to her so I just decided to make sure I heard her correctly.
"Err, Lili, I am going to ask this because I am unsure of what I heard. Did you just say, 'woof'?
