Perhaps it was just his French blood speaking, but Rosaire always believed that a good job deserved to be followed by a good drink. Admittedly, it was a bit of a bad habit – but it was something he’d always stuck by as his little vice; his way of keeping that last little link to his family. But, hey, wine was the blood of Christ and all, so surely it was okay? Besides, he didn’t indulge in anything else (well, okay, he enjoyed fancy bath treatments a lot too), and it really was once in a blue moon that he went drinking. It was definitely okay. Totally fine with the Lord. Absolutely sure about it. Now, admittedly, it was perhaps a bit off to be going to a bar in the early afternoon – but it was a fancy one, and he had just done a lot of work. The Church had a lot of support from the community at the moment given the friction with the Mystic Kind community that was growing in Lakecrest, so he’d been hard at work all day keeping up with those keen on having blessings and sanctification out of habit or in many cases out of fear. Rosaire could totally understand their attitude – Mystic Kind were really scary! But, in this case, he’d probably overdone it a bit… he’d had to fall back on his self-flagellant talent as an Apostle, and was now a little bit blind. Well, totally blind. But hey, he was used to it, and the Lord would always guide his way! S-So that was absolutely okay too! Honestly, things had gone pretty well so far – he’d gotten changed and headed to his favourite bar without any issue despite his state, and not a single soul had gotten in his way – it’d been a while since he’d been there, so he’d been a little concerned that it might have caught up with the city’s supernatural split in the meantime. But he hadn’t even seen any Mystic Kind around, which was really good! He didn’t have to go hiding behind trees and such on the way, which was nice. Maybe he ought to be this dedicated more often. He was in a good mood, he had a nice rum and coke (if only they had proper wine here!) and no one had asked ‘what a pretty girl like you was doing in a place like this’ – truly, he must have been being rewarded for his diligence today. Dressed in his beloved white hoodie alongside a somewhat more conservative pair of skinny jeans compared to his typical shorts (Spring was a bit chilly!), the boy was contently sitting on a stool with his drink in hand – thankfully the little bar was a pretty modern place so he didn’t look too out of place, but it was a quiet evening after all. The sunset made his curly blonde hair sparkle, clearly well taken care of… his skin was no exception either, and his warm smile just finished the image. Honestly, some days the bartender really wondered whether Rosaire’s claims to his gender were true, but… the customer was always right – especially when they were so easily to talk to. Unfortunately for Rosaire, the boy’s blindness had made him utterly unaware of the few Mystic Kind that had taken to the bar courtesy of the nearby casino’s entirely supernatural staff – while the casino had its own drinks, it wasn’t very good to be drinking while on the clock… much less as the place was just opening. A succubus and a centauress were chatting by an outdoor table, while a daemon was currently by the other end of the bar… and all were taking the occasional glance at the apostle. Unbeknownst to the boy, his air of devout purity was blatant to the supernatural souls – and his odd presence in the now predominantly Mystic Kind bar only made him stand out more…

It was a relatively good day, my mom was having one of her more reliable assistants take care of Johnathan, and she had given me the day off so that I could get my bearings in this rather new town. She was rather irresponsible, as she insisted that it was far more important that I knew the town than I knew the specifics of my job, so she practically kicked me out of the casino and told me to explore the town a little. Maybe it was for whatever else the casino did, but I had no idea why at the moment, and simply decided to enjoy the time off, even though I was a little disappointed I couldn't just relax and watch some television over a good drink or spend the time with little Johnathan. Speaking of drinks however, I could really go for a drink right now, and so I looked around.
I was right outside the Casino, and as I looked around I saw a variety of different shops around, and I quickly spied a nearby bar that looked like it had the kind of atmosphere I was looking for, and made my way over there. Of course, I had never been there before, since I had just recently made my way to Lakecrest city, and as a result I had almost no knowledge of the city outside of the Casino. After all, I had made my way there almost immediately. Unfortunately though, my attire was not the most normal or casual for a place like that, partially because I had gotten dressed for work right before my mother had threw me out of the Casino, and she had a rather....strange sense of fashion. I looked very much like a caricature of a minotaur, wearing more cow print than I would care to. Not much could be done about it though, at least it was rather comfortable and easy to move in.
When I reached the door to the bar, as expected, I had to bend over to make my way through the door. Being tall had many advantages, but it made it rather hard to get through doors sometimes, after all, most doors weren't made to accommodate someone that was seven feet tall. Luckily, the bar didn't have anything really hanging too low from the ceiling, so when I walked in I could stand back up again. It seemed like I wasn't alone in being dressed in my mother's fashion sense, seeing as there were multiple people there who looked like they were on break from the Casino. There was a Daemon dressed rather funnily on the other end of the bar, in a rather skimpy leather outfit and with fake horns and wings, outside there was a similarly dressed succubus, but with pink accents and a centauress who was dressed rather wildly. All of them had one thing in common however, they were looking at a rather pretty girl in the middle of the bar.
She was dressed in a pair of faded blue skinny jeans and a white hoodie, with well taken care of, curly, long, blonde hair and as I got closer I saw that her skin was just as well taken care of, and I decided that I would probably enjoy my evening better if I had such a cute drinking partner, so I decided to take the empty seat next to her, taking notice of the drink in her hand. A rum and coke by my reckoning. It seemed the girl had a bit different taste in drinks than I had, but that was no big deal. No need to drink the same thing as long as we were drinking together. Waving over the bartender, I decided to place my order, deciding to make it something with rum.
"One cranberry kiss, barkeep, as large as you can make it. I could use a good strong drink," I said, my accent showing heavily since it was quite different than what the people used around here. After all, I had just moved from the great plains less than a week ago, couldn't help sounding a bit odd the people around here. As I waited for the bartender to make the drink, I turned to the cute girl next to me and began to strike up a conversation. "So whats a cutie like you doing in a bar like this alone at this time of day? After all, I would imagine you would have people flocking right to you normally. I mean, from what I've seen the town is rather safe, but a cutie like you should always be careful, you know?" I said, trying to strike up a bit of conversation with the girl, my maternal instincts showing a little bit in the concern I had for her. She didn't seem like the type who could handle herself in a fight, and there were plenty of people out there who would like to take advantage of a cutie like her, humans and mystics both.
With that said, I took the drink from the bartender when he returned and sipped at it while I waited for the cute girl to respond.

The human bartender seemed a bit surprised by the new appearance, but didn’t give Hailey much more than a passing glance – he hadn’t too much to complain about with the bar’s new audience, but he did wonder if he ought to renovate a little bit for their sake. And maybe offer some jackets or something… those outfits couldn’t be too warm. But, the minotauress had an order on her mind, so he hadn’t much time to ponder it; leaving the lady and her new… friend to their business. While he heard Hailey enter, Rosaire didn’t exactly comprehend the woman’s presence until she sat down beside him – judging by her voice, she was… tall. And judging from the thud beside him, she probably wasn’t small in any other way either. That western twang to her voice, too… h-hang on, ‘cutie’? It seemed Rosiare hadn’t escape that familiar introduction after all, and the blonde winced a bit at the cliché – well, at least it was from a girl this time. At least she’d noticed he was male, that was a start! Hearing the thunk of the lady’s drink (a cranberry kiss generously poured into a collins glass [complete with lemon slice!]) beside him, he figured he probably should try and reply despite his nerves. ”O-Oh, good evening, ma’am.” squeaked the boy in return, buying himself a bit of time to figure out some kind of matching answer to her remarks – Rosaire was not very good at dealing with compliments. ”I was just on my way home and passed by for a drink… um, thank you for your thoughts, of course! I should be okay, though; I have the Lord by my side.” continued the boy, with a warm smile in the direction of the lady’s voice – with that, the daemon and succubus just about bolting upright. To say the least, an apostle in a bar full of Mystic Kind was a baffling thought. ”H-How are you this afternoon? Most people are still at work around now, so I thought I’d be all on my own, to be honest…””I guess it depends on the job, though… a nightly job would be nice, don’t you think? It’d be nicer than all the hot weather in the daytime; the Church gardens can be a nightmare to take care of because of that…” murmured Rosaire to himself, before realising his mistake - ”A-Ah, sorry! I’m rambling! A-And I’ve been really impolite, too… I’m Rosaire Lebeau; it’s a pleasure to meet you! A little company is lovely with a drink…”

The poor girl seemed a bit on the skittish side, and while I felt a tad bad for surprising her, I couldn't deny it made her quite a bit cuter. It really did compliment her appearance to be a bit skittish like that. She seemed quite shy, calling me ma'am...wait did she call me ma'am? That aint right, ma'am is my mother. Maybe she was just raised all proper and didn't how to talk normally to a person. That seemed likely given her appearance and the funny way she talked, She also said something about being okay because she had the Lord on her side, or something like that. For some odd reason the Daemon at the end of the bar jumped a little, but I didn't know why so I just ignored it. Who knows. The girl said something about thinking she would be alone because everyone was at work, and followed up about how it really all depended on the job though.
She seemed like she was not really sure of herself, always contradicting herself, at least thats the vibe I got off her anyway. Bit like a timid child really. Did nobody teach this girl how to stick up for herself? That just wouldn't do in a city like this, but I didn't know if it was my job to interfere. Maybe I would just offer to walk her home when we were done, after all she seemed like the type that could be corralled into something she really ought not to agree to. Hm, it also seemed like she worked at some place called a Church...The named seemed really familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it exactly. Wasn't that where them religious people went to talk to their imaginary friend in the sky? I guess it was pretty popular out here, never reallycaught on around where my house was.
Immediately after the girl apologized profusely again for rambling and not introducing herself, apparently her name was Rosaire. What an odd name, but it was kinda cute in a fancy way. Not my taste but it might tickle a few fancies. Deciding that it was about time to reply myself, I took another drink from my glass and began to speak.
"Don't sweat it, Rosy, if you don't mind me calling you that cutie, but the name's Hailey Smith, call me what you like, as long as it ain't ma'am, thats my mom," I said, introducing myself to Rosy. "As for how I'm doing this evening, I'm pretty good, got the day off from working at the casino, my mom's watching my little one, and I can relax. Not easy moving to a new city and starting a new job, after all. Though you have me curious, I used to live in a petty remote area,so I don't really have a clue what you're talking about this Lord of yours or this Church, mind enlightening me? It seems pretty important for living in this city, or at least thats what my guts telling me," I said, rather interested in the girl had to say. I finished off my drink and signaled to the bartender I wanted another of the same drink and tuned back to the girl in front of me. She was rather cute, and those bright blue eyes just added to it. Something about her seemed off though, I couldn't quite put my finger on it though, it was like sh wasn't quite looking at me, though I had no idea how. Putting that aside, I simply waited for the girl's response and enjoyed the drink when it came.

‘Rosy’? The familiar nickname made the boy yelp quietly, going bright red – the kind of people who that used that nickname for him that he’d met thus far typically tended to look at him with intrigued eyes and make questionable comments regarding his appearance, or enjoy getting right into his personal space whenever they could. It’d been a long while since he’d heard it, though… maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad sign this time? But, it did give a rather worrying premonition… ah, no no! It would be all too rude to judge so much before he’d gotten to know someone! The Lord would surely be upset. And speaking of the Lord being upset, this lady had never heard of His word?! Now this really was a new experience for Rosaire… simply stammering for a moment, the blonde tried to awkwardly figure out where to start from – the clink of Hailey’s refilled glass once again drew him back to reality, though; but in the meantime she’d be treated by a blushing mess. ”W-Well! Well, well – it all starts with the Lord! He’s our God! Everyone’s God! Well, some people misinterpret Him for other things, or think He doesn’t exist, but… He does! Really! Even if you can’t see Him… u-uh, you know when something really nice happens, and you’re not sure why? That’s usually His work! He works quietly behind the scenes for all of us… um, He’s a guiding force for the world.”While satisfied with his little explanation, Rosaire wasn’t sure what route to take next – best to keep things straightforward, but… to be practical, or theological? ”So… people go to Church to give their thanks to Him! You don’t really have to, since He would listen to any prayer, but if you do it all together… then, it’s kind of more meaningful, right? And it means it’s a place with lots of people who also believe in Him! I really believe in Him, so I do a lot of work for the Church and everyone involved in it. I know we have a bit of a bad reputation at the moment since we don’t really get along with Mystic Kind and such, but… we’re not that rough, promise! You should come along with me sometime if you’re curious, Miss Smith. It’d be a good way to get used to the new city and meet some people, I’m sure!”Now painted with a beaming smile as his confidence seemed to come back to him, Rosaire seemed blissfully unaware of his situation – while the nearby daemon just seemed utterly bamboozled by the exchange going on. ”You should be careful about working in a casino, though; I hear some unpleasant things happen at the big one here… I hear even demons work there! T-That’s really scary, don’t you think? And the priest said that the centaur there eat any humans that get near, too… u-um, I’m sure there’s nice centaur too, but… he’s usually right…” murmured the boy, eventually realising that he was probably being a bit too rude. Suffice to say, the centaur outside was now staring at the scene as well – Rosaire’s high voice was a bit hard to miss, especially while he was already earning all kinds of unwanted attention here with his appearance.

Ah, so thats what it was. Before I really began to process much about what the girl said confirmed a suspicion of mine, the girl couldn't see. Explains why it felt like she wasn't quite looking straight at me, she was looking where my voice was coming. This was the only thing that really made how the girl was acting make sense. After all, I got the feeling she was rather scared of mystic kind, but was talking to one rather enthusiastically in a bar full of them. As well as speaking badly of a few kinds that were within earshot of the girl, though that was a rather large area given the girl's rather high pitched voice. A lot of what he said seemed a bit strange, but to a human who was scared of us, it would make quite a bit of sense. Deciding it wouldn't be good to scare the poor girl, and that at least she wasn't hateful, I would pretend to be human, at least for now. Maybe a good experience just talking to one of us could help with the fear the poor girl had.
Deciding to assuage her fear by addressing the various points he said, I took a deep drink of my glass and began to reply to the girl. "The guy himself, your Lord or however youusually call him, sounds like a pretty swell guy if thats the case, but theres something I don't get. If you say your god is for everyone and that hes all loving, why are you uys on bad terms with mystic kind? I mean, theres obviously some bad mysic kind, but the same goes for humans. The town I grew up in had a lot of minotaurs around, being in the plains and whatnot, but they were all really nice people, wouldn't hurt a fly, unless you waved something red in front of them but thats sort of something they can't help and then you're just asking for it. And on the other hand, theres plenty of bad humans out there, I mean theres plenty of criminals out there, you know? Makes me wonder why specifically you guys wouldn't get along with mystic kind if hes truly for everyone, you know?" I said, stopping to pause and take a drink while letting the girl take stoc of what I said before continuing.
"As for the big casino, that's the one I work at. Normally, she only hires mystc kind yeah, but I'm a bit ofa special case. I grew up in the same town and she practically was a mother to me for a long time after my mom ran off to Vegas. As for the other girls who work there, she only usually hires girls with bad histories, being abused, orphans, dead husbands, things like that. They all seem of the nice enough sort. In fact, what your priest said is actually a pretty big whopper of a lie, or hes terribly mistaken. Not sure if all centaur are like this, but the girls I've met at the casino all were exclusively vegetarian and would be more likely to protect you from an assailant than eat you. Work with a few of them on security too, all of them are really good people," I said, dismantling the last part as well before finishing my drink and ordering a third.
Deciding to put one last question out there at the moment, I said, "I got a hunch so I'm going to just be blunt, okay? You're blind, aren't you Rosy? Not sure why but I just get the feeling you aren't quite looking at me. Feels like you're looking at y mouth not my eyes. If I'm wrong, then I apologize, but I'm just a tad curious," I finished, sipping at the drink that the bartender brought over in the mean time. After that I sat and waited to see the girl's response to what I just said.

Being confronted on his beliefs wasn’t exactly what Rosaire was hoping for from a chat in a bar, but it was anything but an unfamiliar occurrence – at least Hailey had some kind of argument on hand, even if it was a bit bizarre by his standards. ”Well… it’s a bit of both sides, isn’t it? I don’t really know all of it myself, but they had issues from way back… especially since a lot of Mystic Kind are sort of the direct opposite of the Church; like vampires and demons… the rest I’m not so sure about. But, I guess the way I see it is that the other big groups focus on bad humans, so we focus on bad supernatural stuff, right? I don’t know myself, but I think the Lord would be accepting of anyone who walked his path… maybe even a vampire! But, that’d be impossible.”Sighing a bit sadly over the thought, Rosaire’s feelings were obvious – the idea would be a joke to most, but to this boy it was something that broke his heart. Someone who couldn’t even choose to accept his religion…that was one thing he really was mortified by. Well, that and most Mystic Kind. As kind as his words might be, his heart couldn’t quite keep up. ”I can’t really judge for Mystic Kind on the whole, though… I haven’t met many, and I’m not really sure I want to. I haven’t really had anything but bad experiences so far, so I think it’s probably best if I stick with humans…” he murmured, not quite sure how to express his feelings on the matter in the right way. ”Your mom sounds really nice; I’m sure the Lord smiles upon her work. But, um, I don’t really think the clergy could lie… n-not that it hasn’t happened before, but they’re supposed to be the most virtuous of the virtuous. B-Besides, it might just be the kind of person there…” replied Rosaire awkwardly, frowning slightly at the thought of how to explain his position; ”I’d love to meet them, but… err, it’s sort of like… I probably shouldn’t dive in the deep end? I wouldn’t mind, but my superiors always said that I shouldn’t do anything like that. Or, well, it was more like, ‘of all people, you especially shouldn’t do that’.”But, then was the rather inevitable question – it was probably for the best she asked, and frankly Rosaire was all too happy to answer. ”Oh, yes! I am, right now. It’s a sign of my commitment! I’m an apostle with the Church, so I can ask the Lord for special favours; but it takes a bit of a toll on me. I’ll be fine after a proper bath, so don’t worry about me. I’m not truly blind.” explained the tiny boy happily; hair bouncing along with his smile; ”Ah, but I tend to forget the problems that come with it, unfortunately… it must be getting late, right? I probably shouldn’t stick around too long if it’s getting dark… I can’t really tell, but it is getting colder, isn’t it?”As the bartender watched in bemusement as the pair chatted, Hailey’s third drink was poured – while the other Mystic Kind had already begun to disperse… maybe it was the time of day as the casino’s main shifts started, but Rosaire’s eager admission of being a supposed warrior of his faith probably hadn’t helped much in the case of the demonic patrons. But, the sun was definitely setting now; leaving only a few last flakes of gold around the bar’s windows.

It seemed the girl herself was rater uncertain about his thoughts on Mystic Kind, unlike whoever taught her these beliefs. as I get the feeling that the other people, especially this priest of hers, would likely have a far different answer to the question of if her Lord would accept mystic kind. And just a I thought, it was fear. She said he had bad experiences with Mystic kind, and while I was curious as to what that entailed, it was probably better if I didn't ask or try to presume, the first would probably be rude and the second likely wouldn't be too accurate so I just decided to take her at her word for it. She continued on for a bit on the subject, trying to defend his priest without really doing so, and saying that the people around her said that she shouldn't meet too much with them. I got the feeling this wasn't his own safety, rather they were worried that she might start to doubt, but that was just me. Maybe they were all afraid of us and they were concerned for her safety since she seemed rather weak.
Apparently the girl was some sort of special power that was a big deal i the church, and apparently using it, or perhaps overusing it, left the girl temporarily blind, and she said that I shouldn't worry about her because she wasn't permanently blind. Honestly, that just made me worry more, after all, a truly blind person would have gotten used to navigating without seeing, right? The girl also mentioned that it was beginning to get a bit late, which it was, apparently she was able to tell because i was starting to get a bit colder. The girl probably was planning on leaving soon, but between being a bit tipsy and being blind, I couldn't really just let her go home like that, so I decided to insist on bringing her home with me at least until she got her sight back. Maybe when she learned that a mystic kind was talking to her nicely tht whole time and cared fr her while she was blind, she would feel at leas a little bit more comfortable around us.
Deciding to address everything, I began to speak, "Honestly, I get the feeling that while your Lord might, accept them, the other people there at your church would be rather scared of them. At least, thats the impression I get. Maybe you guys could get along better if you got some volunteers to spread the word among some of the more open minded Mystics? Sure, not all of them would accept right away I think, but at least you'd be making an attempt to reconcile, and I think you'd get more support from both from myscs if you guys were on good terms with everyone, at least that;s how I feel," I said, giving the girl a sincere tone of voice before continuing,"And while I think its kinda noble to be focusing on supernatural threats, its important to remember to remember that not everything supernatural is bad, thats just prejudiced and silly."
Taking a deep breath before continuing, I addressed the issue of letting bad experiences shy him away from meeting Mystics, "Honestly, letting a few bad apples ruin a group of people for you is rather sad, Rosy. If I let my experiences ruin a group of people, I probably would never speak to another man again. First my dad and my brother run off to join some mercenary group, then my idiot of a husband gets himself killed and leaves me behind with a kid wondering where his daddy is. But, I can't let this bother me forever, it's not fair to all the nice guys out there that never did anything wrong," I said, gulping a large bit of my drink. Damn, I must be a bit tipsy myself if I'm willing to talk about something like this with a total stranger. What the blazes did they put in these things anyway.
I paused for a moment to finish off my drink before continuing, "Honestly, I can't help but worry about you getting home safely. You're probably more than a little tipsy on top of being blind, Rosy. I insist that you come wait at my place until you can see again at least, I would feel terrible if I let you go off alone like this. I live quite nearby, so its not too out of the way," I said, my matrnal instincts kicking in as I replied to the girl. She seemed too helpless to leave alone, and I didn't want some thug to mug hr or worse while she was defenseless. With that said, I paid the bartender for the drinks, covering Rsy's as well, while I waited for the girl's response.

Hailey’s musings were met with plenty of eager nodding and inquisitive staring (well, as much as Rosaire could manage while blind); but in the end the boy seemed a bit unsure. While it certainly sounded grand, he’d made similar suggestions before… as much as he was terrified by Mystic Kind, Rosaire had little serious ill will against them. Or against anyone, all things considered. ”A-Ah, well, that would be great, but… given how insecure people from the Church seem around the supernatural right now, that might be… a bad move…” replied the boy quietly, gently taking a sip from his drink to cool himself down – this was a rare case where he wasn’t entirely blinded by his naivety… for a moment or two, at least. ”I might try asking some of the people I really trust, though… u-um, I’d do it myself, but… a-ah, I’m… busy, plus they told me specifically not too and such…”Feeling especially bad given his weak excuse and weaker heart, the boy gave another sad little sigh; as Hailey’s words didn’t do much to make him feel better about his lack of courage in the midst of the changing world. Err, though the talk of her husband dying and leaving her son behind really didn’t help his state… perhaps it could be said that it rang a bit too true for him. ”W-Well, I think you son should be fine with someone like you; even without a father. I spent a lot of time with neither, but I found a new family with the Lord’s herd.” replied Rosaire, doing his best to improve Hailey’s mood a little bit – w-wait, hang on, she had trouble with speaking to men? Well, that didn’t really matter, but the way she worded all her woes sounded a bit off for some reason… ah, well, maybe she just wanted a friendly ear. While briefly lost in his thoughts (partially about his unlikely drinking partner’s odd approach to speaking in the earlier moment, but also partially about where she was putting all those drinks she’d ordered), Rosaire was promptly distracted by Hailey’s offer – only to find his tab vanish before he could even begin to prepare a response. ”Um, um, u-um! W-Well, I – y-you’re too kind, certainly, but there’s no need to worry too much about me… I do live around here, a-and I’ve done this sort of thing before, a-and…” began to blabber the poor blonde, shuffling onto his feet and picking up with satchel (after missing once in his blind haste); trying to put on some sort of show of competence… he was a little tipsy, which did make it harder, but he didn’t want to be any trouble. Stumbling slightly as he got up in such a hurry, Rosaire quickly tried to regain his grace and composure in the midst of all his bashfulness… only to promptly topple nearly immediately after his moment of meditation; slumping straight over onto Hailey’s lap. With a jolt the boy was back on his feet again; blushing brightly from the experience. ”A-Awawawa, I’m sorry! I’m j-just a bit… nervous! S-Stressed! T-Tipsy… blind… o-okay, you might have a point… I’m really sorry, Miss Smith!” squeaked the poor thing, hiding in the collar of his hood a little – and doing very little to reinforce his actual gender, as per usual. ”I got all my duties done at the Church, anyway… I can’t do much more due to all the fuss going on with the clergy at the moment. Honestly, I barely even have a room there right now, despite being assigned here…” explained the boy meekly, attempting to reassure himself about his choice; ”S-So… it’d be lovely, if that really is okay with you. I’d be happy to bless you in return! Or, I could do a sanctification? A prayer together? Err, I could cook, too… or maybe just teach you a little bit more about the Church? I’d offer a baptism, but that’s not really within my rank…”Giving another meek sigh (although it came out more like a squeak in his current state), Rosaire just awkwardly stood by Hailey for any kind of leadership – err, how would she lead him, though? It’d be unfamiliar territory, so just her voice probably wouldn’t work out so well… w-were they going to hold hands? Ah, he really shouldn’t be so awkward about all this, she was just being so nice; and yet he was getting lost in thought about all this weird stuff. Her lap was so soft, too… a-ah, no, that’s even worse to think about! He just needed a bath to calm his mind at this point, let alone perform his ritual…

It seems Rosy here had the same idea as me, but it seemed that the people in her church didn't seem nearly as open minded or willing to work with my kind as readily as she was. No matter, if they didn't want to then they couldn't be forced to. It would just make them more resentful. Working with Rosy here was the best I could do right n, after all, I was just one woman, there was only so much I could do after all. She did try to comfort me a bit about my own situation, turns out she was an orphan taken in by her church. That explains why she was with them when it seemed that she wasn't the type to part of such a negative group.
She seemed a bit flustered by my order, trying to deny she needed the help while falling over onto my lap trying to get it. The girl seemed rather embarrassed, hiding her face with her hood a bit rather cutely before deciding to take me up on my offer and apologizing formally, calling me Mrs Smith in the process. It seemed that the girl didn't really have a place to stay in general, so I figured I'd offer to let her stay until she had a place to. After all, I didn't want to think about her getting into trouble while looking for a safe place to sleep.
Deciding that it was about time to end her babbling I simply swept the girl off her feet and carried her in my arms, unaware of the fact that some would call this a "princess carry". Speaking to the girl to address her words as I did so, I said, "I told you Rosy, call me Hailey. Miss Smith is my mother's name. And not having a place to stay simply wont do, feel free to stay as long as you need to find a place of your ow. All I ask is you help out round the house a bit," I said, looking at the girl in my arms. I nodded the bartender as I began to head out of the bar, making a passing comment that I'd make sure Rosy wouldn't get in any trouble.
As I began to walk out, I started to speak to the girl, "So I live rather near here, try to put up with being carried until we get there. Don't want you getting separated from me too easily, you know. I'll have t pass through a slightly noisy area to get there as well, so don't pay it too much mind, okay?" I said, telling the girl rather vaguely where I lived. After all, I would have to pass through at least the parlor of the casino to get to my room.
After walking for a short while, we made it to the Casino and I entered the place still holding Rosy. Of course, I got some strange looks for carrying someone in, and no doubt my mom would be coming over to the room shortly, but it didn't really matter. I was just doing a good deed to help a person out. After a minute or so, I got out of the public area and brought him into the hallways that led to the employee area, there was an employee bath right across from my room, so I brought them there, having recalled she needed to use it to fix her eyes. I quickly knocked on the door to make sure nobody was in there and put her down inside, saying, "My room's right across the hall from here, you should be able to use the bathroom in peace, but I'll be waiting outside if you need any help due to your blindness. The bathtub is right next to you, but if you want me to help, just call out and I'll be right in," I said, getting up to leave.
If the girl didn't have anything else to ask of me, I would make my way out of the bathroom, and camp out in front of the door, waiting for the inevitable visit my mother would be paying me.

Relieved that Hailey wasn’t too bothered by all his stumbling and blathering, Rosaire calmed as he was gently scolded for his trouble – he was used to that sort of thing, so it was almost comforting in the midst of his nervousness. Giving a weak smile, the blind apostle seemed to calm down… only to immediately freak out once again as he was suddenly scooped off his feet, squirming awkwardly in the lady’s grip as he was lifted. Turns out grabbing blind people without warning was a bit rude! Especially meek and helpless ones! However, his efforts didn’t do much but risk him falling out of her cradling hands given Hailey’s sturdiness, and maybe give her a bit of an awkward sensation from the comparatively tiny boy’s movements. ”H-H-Hold on! Y-You don’t need to carry me, Miss Sm- H-Hailey!” squealed the poor apostle, understandably baffled by his newfound situation – he thought being picked up at a bar was a metaphor! W-Was this how people got kidnapped these days? While mortified by his situation, Rosaire wasn’t exactly in any position to complain… and, well, if things did get really bad, he could probably shrink… he could still feel the weight of his satchel, so he was probably relatively safe with it still on hand. ”I can still w-walk, you know! U-Um, aren’t you worried about how people might think…? A-Aah, this is really embarrassing…”While Rosaire continued to blush and whine, the bartender gave an idle wave to the pair as they left – while a touch worried, he wasn’t stupid enough to bother a drunk minotaur; much less one currently wielding a bludgeoning weapon. As Hailey marched outdoors, the boy seemed to resign himself to his situation… and comprehend it a bit more. B-Being carried by a girl like this… w-well, it was certainly a new sensation. For some reason, he felt especially bashful… well, it wasn’t exactly unpleasant. She was warm, a little soft; so gentle, too. Though, she was carrying something on his chest at the moment, which was a bit of a bizarre choice… especially since it was a bit heavy, and it seemed like it might just fall off of him entirely with her movements… The boy just felt all the more awkward as Hailey talked, unsure of what to make of her warnings – so a lot of people were going to see him like this?! A-Ah, the Church might have his head over looking like this in public… w-well, at least it was night now. Maybe he could get away with it… at least he hadn’t worn his habit today. Remaining silent, Rosaire just stayed still; his emotions sitting somewhere between scared and bashful. All the noise within whatever building she went to was bizarre to him, though… music and chatter and all kinds of clattering and beeping. Did she live in a movie theatre or something? Thankfully, he was soon back in relative silence, finally placed back onto his feet – and upon a tiled floor; a bathroom, thank goodness! ”A-Ah, I can’t thank you enough, Miss – um, Hailey!” chirped the boy, giving a tiny bow before being left to his own devices. Slipping his satchel off of his shoulder, he hastily rifled through his sanctifying gear; recognising the shapes and textures of his familiar tools… alright, to work! …oh, hang on, the bath tub… wasn’t it kind of huge…? ------------------------- ”Now hang on there, little miss!” calleda familiar voice as Hailey waited outside, her wish being granted right on time – the goofily-dressed minotaur mother seemed to be in quite the huff, halting by her daughter with folded arms and a grumpy expression. ”You’ve only been on the town for an hour, and I hear you already don’t care a continental about your reputation! Suzy told me that you’ve been hanging about real troublesome sorts at the bar; some curly wolf! Maddy even backed her up; some cross-toting fool, they say! And then you go storming through the casino with some poor flower in your arms! You’d better start explaining, Hail, or you’re gonna be looking forward to being grounded for a week! And not a drop of booze while you’re here, too!”

After I left Rosy alone in the bathroom to take the bath that would somehow cure her blindness, I suddenly heard angry boot steps coming from down the hall. Right on time, it seemed, but it was not like I was hoping she would come, more like I had resigned myself to the inevitable. After all, word traveled fast and my mother was always somehow the first one to hear it. Seriously, sometimes it seemed like the ceilings had eyes and the walls had ears around her, and they were somehow connected to her body. Rather predictably, my mother started to criticize me, but I could only make out about half of what she was trying to say due to her strange accent and even more bizarre choice of expressions and words. She really lived the character, didn't she?
After spending a few seconds looking puzzled at her as I tried to figure out what the blazes she was saying, I came to the conclusion she was talking about Rosy. I didn't understand what exactly the reference about a continental about, but it was obvious that she thought my hanging around with her was bad for my reputation. I didn't exactly get why she would refer to her as a wolf though, and I guessed that a cross was some sort of symbol of her religion, but other than that it didn't make too much sense. What I did figure out though was that she didn't connect the person in the bar to the person in the bathroom, and I was on the fence about telling her that they were the same person or not, though I figured honesty was the best policy, and decided to go with the truth.
"I don't know too much about the girl being a 'wolf', though that might just be the fact I'm new to town and the girl you're referring to was the first person to mention them to me. I don't really think she could harm a fly though, especially right now. Poor girl was temporarily blinded from using her powers, and was trying to go home tipsy and blind. She seemed like a nice enough person, if a bit scared of mystic kind so I just pretended to be a human given she couldn't see me. From what I talked to her about, her church seems the bad sort, but that doesn't mean she is. She was just adopted by them because she lost her parents. And I remember a certain someone telling me it was no good to judge a person before I got to know them, mom," I said, giving her a few choice words to defend myself and using that lesson she gave me many years ago against her.
"As I said, she seems like the nice enough sort, and I get the feeling she stays with that church because she had some bad experiences with Mystic Kind when she was younger, and shes letting that scare her and keeping her from meeting the nice ones. I reckon that with some exposure to the nice ones, she probably will change her viewpoints, as when I was talking to her I made a few points that she seemed rather hesitant on about agreeing with her church on," I said, finishing off what I was saying.
With that said, I waited for my mom to respond or for Rosy to come out of the bathroom, whichever happened first.

Running a bath while blind was awkward enough, but running a bath while blind in which the tub itself was about as deep as you were tall was a real trial. A test of faith! There was certainly a lot of faith involved for Rosaire in this case, as trying to guess how deep the bath was at any point practically required mountain climbing skills… was this really the bath? Everything was in the right place, so it must be it, but this scale was a bit ridiculous. Thankfully, it seemed there was a sort of shallower end akin to a seat at one side, so that was at least a safe way down. Disrobing from his casual clothing, Rosaire carefully began his ritual – a sprinkle of holy water, his cross necklace, some oils… well, and a pinch of bubble bath mix, of course, but that wasn’t really part of it… and now, that wonderful lyric…~ ---------------------- ”Eh?! You walked in here with a Church member?! Who has powers?! What are you thinking?! They hate us, Hailey! Like, ‘murder us in an alley if they could’-level hatred! You’re putting everyone here at risk!” blew up Maria, unsurprisingly baffled by her daughter’s testament – the minotaur’s outrage quickly drew a small crowd of the staff, albeit keeping their distance; especially as she seemed too furious to even bother with her usual slang. ”We’ll have to throw them out straight away, before they get up to anything too suspect! Just think of all our poor dem-“”Heavenly Father; Lord of heaven and earth; thank you for this place to live. Thank for this body and this life, and all the others who live under Your loving gaze. I claim my body as my bastion of spiritual safety for me and my kin, and ask for Your protection from all the evils of the world. As a child of God, raised and seated with Christ, I wish for your hand in cleansing by body and soul of all sin – within, and without. With this, may I be pure like Your son ever onwards. Amen.”Interrupting by the prayer that echoed from the bathroom, Maria just stared at her daughter with utmost frustration; and a pinch of confusion – that wasn’t quite the kind of prayer she was used to, but that hardly excused the situation at hand! ”Y-You see?! She’s preparing something right here, right now! We might already be too late!” snapped the minotaur with a huff of anger – she wasn’t really doing the race’s stereotype many favours with her current temper, admittedly. ”I’m going in there right now! It’s too much of a risk! And after that, I’m giving you a long, stern talking to, young lady!”And with that, she threw the door open – ”UWAAAAAAA!!!”- And shut it again immediately. Giving a gentle cough of embarrassment, the minotauress clearly needed a moment before she was going to be able to talk again – yet already there were plenty of murmurs from the sneaky few that had peaked around her frame. A bubble bath, a tiny blonde, and a cry like a mouse… well, she certainly wasn’t a threat, at least. ”…D-Damn, she’s pretty good…” admitted the lady awkwardly, only to be interrupted by a quick whisper from one of the resident succubus - ”A boy?! What?! No way!”---------------------- Heart pounding, Rosaire sunk meekly into his bath… well, given that interruption and all the shouting outside, it was probably best he cleaned up quickly. Now that he could see again, it was going to be a lot easier – the scale of the bathroom was still crazy to him; with all kinds of oddly shaped appliances; but best not to question the kindness of strangers too much. Though, those outfits had really seemed wacky… just where was he? This bath really was luxurious, though… it really was the best he’d ever been in, despite the awkward size. But, all good things had to come to an end – though he was briefly caught up in more size mix-ups with all the bizarrely big and small towels. The other things along the sink and cupboards were just as baffling; all kinds of polishing stuff, some strange creams and oils, whatever ‘mane gel’ was… it really was weird. Maybe it was just some flashy hotel? In any case, he soon got dressed – well, relatively. For now he just wore his jeans; wrapping his hoodie and shirt around his waist instead. He needed a bit longer to get, ah, spruced up…

"Mom stop it ain't right to walk in on a girl when shes bath--" I said, cut off by being dragged along by force as I attempted to keep my mom from walking in on Rosy to no avail. As expected, Rosy gave quite the yelp when my mom threw open the door. I didn't get too much of a peak at it, but there were lots of bubbles. Lots. My mom quickly closed it as fast as she opened it, and quickly fell silent as she realized that Rosy was quite harmless. All I could do was look at her knowingly, since I had practically told her that before she had burst into the poor girl's bath.
However, before I could point this out, it seemed that she had realized that and said something that I didn't quite get before a succubus whispered in her ear and said something, before my mom exclaimed it, and my mind froze.
Rosy was a boy? Nah, there was no way this was true. She was too cute to be a boy, and she even had a purse! What kind of man dresses like that, looks like that, sounds like that, and carries a purse? There was no way that could be true. Yeah, it had to be a misunderstanding, that succubus had to be wrong. But...she was rather embarrassed when she landed on my lap, but that could just be because she fell over. Yeah that had to be it, and that succubus had to be wrong, there was no way. But succubi had to be good at that thing, I mean they kind of fed on men after all, and stranger things are around me every day. No matter how I looked at it or tried to argue against it, there was no way she...I mean he wasn't a boy. At least he wasn't the type I had trouble with, if he had been more masculine I might have freaked a bit when I found out. But...what is this? I feel a bit funny on realizing that, don't think Ive felt this way in a long time, if ever.
Quickly shaking off these strange feelings, I turned to my mother and began to speak after clearing my throat, "That was a bit of a surprise, but that doesn't really change anything. He's harmless and if we do what I was saying before you blew your top and decided to barge in there, we could really improve the relations between humans and our kind here mom," I said a bit shakily, still a bit shaken from the revelation. "Plus, I'm a bit worried about him. He told me that he didn't have anywhere to stay really, due to some sort of mixup at the church he was living at, and I don't think he has a way of earning money to get somewhere to live. I brought him here, so I'll take responsibility for him, but please, lets at least try what I said, and hire him on. If he interacts with enough of us, he will get rid of his fear and it will solve the problem of not having a safe place to live. I'll let him stay with me until he has enough to go somewhere else, I have enough confidence in his harmlessness to let him live with me," I said, staring my mom dead in the eye.
Sure it would be strange living with a man again, but my mom wouldn't fold unless I was as serious as I could be. And I truly believed this would be helpful to making this town safer for me, for Johnathan, and for all the rest of the mystic kind in the city. Plenty could go wrong, but nothing worth doing ever had no chance of failure. After staring my mom down for what seemed like an eternity, I finally said this, "So what do you say mom, will you try it my way?"

Hailey’s knowing look earned a little huff from Maria, far from pleased to get that sort of reception – although she was in the right this time, so the older bovine could hardly complain this time. Damn kids… too smart for their own good. She was vulnerable right now! Hailey was just being a darn bully; hassling her poor old mom like this. Thankfully it ended up with both minotaurs hesitating awkwardly as they wrapped their heads around the situation; though the younger of the pair got her word in first. Though, admittedly… like minds thought alike, but for all the wrong reasons. ”Hiring an apostle… improving our relationship with humans… easing his fear… ah, well… h-hang on! I want that boy on my staff!” exclaimed Maria, suddenly back to her boundless energy; beaming brightly; ”Imagine it! Mystic Kind, meet your new waiter – the most harmless Church rep on the planet! Cutesy and clueless, he’ll make them look like a joke! A real star… and, a totally unthreatening boy on staff… with the right outfits, that’d be a fortune in the making…”Rubbing her hands together eagerly, Maria’s eyes sparkled with mischievous glee; as she swung around to give her daughter a clap on the shoulder for her ‘efforts’. ”Yes, yes; that’s right; let’s do it your way! But he’s my employee if this goes through, so I get to make the orders, got it? You can baby him all you like, but I gotta have my profits too if he’s gonna haunt here.” lectured the lady, waving a finger in a playfully scolding manner; ”But, hear this! If anything goes wrong… I’m gonna shoot that hair right off of his head, you got it? I don’t want any of my girls hurt… though I get the feeling he’s not all too worrying in the first place. You’ll still get a pay deduction if it ends up rough like that though, y’hear?”Seeming satisfied with that, Maria just threw open the door again before shoving Hailey forward (or as best she could, given she didn’t quite have the physique of her daughter) – though no doubt the rest of the chuck of staff who had ducked out of work to see what the fuss was about were peeking in alongside her. In front of her, though; was quite the sight… thankfully Rosaire was fully dressed now, hoodie aside, but his floating walk towards the door froze mid-step before his visitor – the colour drained immediately from his cheeks, and his eyes went wide and glassy. Thump. Thump. Something terrible happened. Thump. Thump. Something really terrible. Thump. Thump. Something I was scared of. Thump. Thump. Whether it made me feel terribly sad – Thump. Thump. Whether it made me feel terribly angry – Crack. … I can’t even tell.
