With a complete lack of grace, Ekaterina hit the floor rather harshly and skid across the ground momentarily before she could recover. Adding to her displeasure, the gorget that had saved her life in the past had betrayed her, shovelling dirt directly onto her face and threatening to pour another helping down the collar of her uniform. A hacking cough accompanied her attempts to push herself off the ground, as her lungs tried to expel the earth that she had sucked in. Needless to say, the raven-haired apostle was not completely ready to react to the high-pitched warning from her blond counterpart.
Still, her body leapt into action on instinct. Suppressing any unnecessary reactions with force of will, the girl rolled to one side so that she faced the charging beast. It was closing in fast. Her heart skipped a beat as she felt the ground beneath her shake. It couldn't have been more than a few seconds away. Without the familiar rhythm of her firearm, nor warmth of a blessed relic in her hands, her thoughts were muddled by emotion. Logic demanded that she get out of the way once again, yet instinct demanded that defiance.
For better or for worse, emotion had the final say, pushing Ekaterina to stand her ground. With a grim expression, she summoned the holy relic and rose to her feet. "Not again." She muttered to herself, fingers going pale from the severity her grip. "Never again." If Nilvas did not strike true, it would have been doubtful that the girl would have had time to get ready. However, with the Lord's blessing - and a little luck - the beast would close in on a determined apostle braced for its approach with a wide bladed bardiche raised at the ready.
