May 16, 10:30 P.M.A dark night fell through the city. Rush hour has passed on by, but it continues to be lively as ever. The streets were always filled with cars and impatient drivers. Parking spots on the curb were as rare as a needle in a haystack in this metropolis, an infuriating and annoying natural law in this place. The dark van rumbled through the upward sloping and crowded streets. It had clear white lettering on its passenger doors and the hood: I.A.C.S.B. For a van, it was outfitted with the latest research technology for the uncertain and dangerous task this team had ahead of them. The GPS installed made it reasonably easy to reach the destination, yet the congested roads were tedious nevertheless. The engine's purring finally ceased as it parked on the San Francisco Police Department's premises. The rows of squad vehicles would've been uniform if it weren't for the van. Its passenger and driver finally disembarked to head on inside the building as they exited the garage. The heavy odor of coffee and cigarettes and the rings of electronic phones greeted the I.A.C.S.B. agents. Officers actively debated, argued, and theorized in every direction and on every case this city expected them to solve. The team were led by an officer, a neophyte fresh off the nearest police academy. It was clear that there was some fascination as he continued to steal glances at each of the hybrids, but said nothing else. Through the white hallways with various unknown stains and blue carpeting, they finally reached a solid walnut office door with sandblasted glass. It was hard to see through clearly, but it was clear someone was inside. There was a knock and then a grunt. "Come in," a voice replied gruffly. They would enter and see a small office fully furnished with the usual necessities of a desk, computer, file cabinets, and so forth. In the middle that sat in the desk was a blonde woman in formal dark suit with glasses. Her attention was stuck onto the pages of paper she was busy reading over, but she looked up once the door closed behind the agents while the neophyte left quietly. ”Huh. So you’re the ones they sent?” she asked as the papers were being put away, ”Good. Then we can finally do something useful with you guys here.” OOC: Just finish making your post in the Briefing thread if you haven't yet. That way we can end it and then I can link this through there. Also DJ, I think Edwin shall be the van driver. If that's fine with ya or unless the rest of you guys want to.

As Edwin carefully manipulated the steering wheel, driving through the dark streets of San Francisco, a thought kept occurring to him, since the group had gotten in this van and started heading for the city. That particular thought was, “What the hell am I doing?”
Edwin had no experience as a professional driver. Hell, he didn’t have much as an amateur driver – enough to get a driver’s license, sure, but that was it really, and whatever experience he’d been required to get as a member of the IACSB. The only reason he was doing surprisingly better than he expected behind the wheel of this van seemed to be years of playing racing video games. And the studies showed that, while it helped, it didn't help very much since a video game was very different from the real world. Then again, the real world had demons in it, so you could argue the difference between it and video games was getting slighter and slighter each passing day.
In any case, the group drove in relative silence, save for the beeping and buzzing of instruments. Edwin had wanted to put some music on the radio, but it hadn’t been long before the group had started arguing about what station was best to put on – Edwin was pretty sure that Eichorn had deactivated the van’s radio remotely in order to stop a fight breaking out in the van. So at this point, Edwin was concentrating on the road, too busy to see what the others were doing in the van.
The van pulled up in the parking lot of the SFPD, and the group exited the van. Edwin pushed a button attached to a device on the keyring, and heard more locks clicking shut in the van then one would expect a van to contain. It was a small comfort to Edwin – whatever else happened, that thing wasn’t getting stolen anytime soon, and the keys he attached to a pocket in his trenchcoat ensured that was going to stay that way.
It was a familiar smell upon entering the offices of the SFPD – coffee, cigarettes, phones, and the buzz of people. It brought back memories of the first time his father had taught him how to shoot, and how he’d wondered if, for a brief moment, he could end up an officer of the law. It was a bitter memory, but somehow at the same time a breath of nostalgia that Edwin rarely got these days. An officer that looked even younger than Edwin did led the group through the hallways - Edwin noticed that he wasn’t even a footnote compared to the group he was with. That was fine, he didn’t expect to be, and that was the way he liked it. Let Arwen do the talking, she was the diplomatic one.
Before too long, they’d entered a particular office. The lady sitting behind the desk looked important and focused, and that was all Edwin really needed. If she wasn’t the boss, she was close enough. He couldn’t help but wonder what she was reading – a long time ago, he’d have probably tried to hack the police servers to find out, but nowadays if he really wanted to he could probably just find out by looking up the databases of the IACSB.
Edwin kept quiet, deciding that Arwen could do all the explaining. Besides, due to his youthful hacking exploits he was probably still a criminal, and while the IACSB would probably protect him, he didn’t really want to draw attention to himself. Besides, it would be interesting to see how the local police force dealt with the supernatural.

While she seemed to be a bit upset initially about not getting to drive, it was probably for the better that Lili was left in the back seats of the van – the situation had excited her enough to make her ears and tail show up, so her mind probably wasn’t in the best mode for dealing with laws and rules – oh, what a cute cat! With a rhythmic thudding the other passengers of the van were thus once more treated to the sound of the would-be werewolf’s tail wagging against the seat behind her; whilst her head stuck slightly out the open window beside her. The air against her ears and nose was lovely for Lili, and getting to see all the sights was fun in its own way. While it was a bit embarrassing in retrospect, Lili didn’t care much for the look – there wasn’t any music and the others weren’t seeming too talkative, so it was nice to just let herself go for a bit. Besides, she was in the back… maybe Arwen wouldn’t look back and see any of this? Hopefully? Maybe? Bah… they were there soon anyway. Stepping out with renewed stoic dignity, Lili followed the other two’s lead into the building – thankfully, the hybrid was wise enough not to come in just her odd school garb. Well, she was still wearing it, admittedly; but she had the IACSB’s trench coat wrapped over it for the time-being. The coat seemed much too big for the girl; wrapping around her more like a cloak than a coat… she didn’t even have her arms through the coat’s arms. While it ought to make her look a bit more silly, she just seemed more bitter with the look… The atmosphere of the offices made Lili furrow her brow – it was a reviled place. Her friends were criminals in Germany… the police were a consistent irritation; only a rare aid even when they were supposed to be cooperating. Besides, they talked too much… the only laws the werewolf cared for were not getting shot. Or punched. Well, okay; not going to prison would be nice too… Much like Edwin, the canine girl stayed silent when they approached the lady in charge. Her wolfish features were still in plain sight, a deliberate choice for once; at least in Lili’s mind – a threat. She wasn’t overjoyed by Arwen having to talk with more people, but… at least she was good at it. Honestly, the wolf would have liked to just have been given the orders and been done with it like in her good old days… but alas. Stupid missions…

On the car ride to the location of our mission, I decided to sit in the front seat of the van, with Lili in the back and Edwin driving. The hours passed rather quickly for me, as I was immersed deep in thought. Specifically, I was thinking back on my family at home, the reason I was here, and the reason why I would carry on with this mission, no matter how unpleasant it became for me. My younger brother and sister deserved to have the happy, peaceful life that I was denied, And for that to happen, I had live up to my family's expectations, no matter how harsh they may be, and how many people I had to hurt to accomplish this. Of course, I would avoid it at all possible, however, I could not hesitate to crush someone to advance, it was what was expected of me, and I could not show any weakness, lest I be replaced by my younger siblings, and have them be forced into the role I am now. I could not allow it, it was sad to have to prepare myself to be callous if necessary, however it was far better to hurt someone else than to hurt my family, it definitely was the lesser of two evils. However, I would never let myself forget the sins I would commit against others, and I would never forget the victims I was not able to save in time, like the poor people who were murdered by this foul demon before we were sent. I would extract vengeance on their killer, and carry the memory of their existence for the rest of my life, it was the least I could do for them, after all.
After reminiscing for a while, I noticed something rather intriguing coming from the back seat when I turned around due to a strange sound emanating from the back seat that had broken through my concentration, and I was treated with the rather interesting sight of Lili embracing her canine heritage by doing what dogs do in cars, that is sticking her head out the window and enjoying the wind across her face. I laughed quietly to myself, not wishing to comment at the moment since she seemed quite content, and I definitely did not want to ruin it for her, as she rarely looked like she was enjoying herself as much as she was at the moment.
After a bit more time passed while I mentally prepared myself for the mission ahead, making sure I was prepared to kill if necessity dictated it, we finally arrived at the San Francisco Police department, and Edwin parked the car, and we all got out of the car and headed to the lobby of the police station. Soon after entering the lobby, we were greeted by a young officer, who seemed a bit skittish, probably fresh out of the academy. As he led us through the halls, I could not help but notice he kept stealing glances at Lili and me, which was a fairly normal reaction. He probably had not seen too many hybrid before, and to most people I looked like a full elf, so iI probably seemed even more out of place to him. However, as he seemed not all that talkative, I kept to myself, I did not want to catch the boy off guard, as he seemed to think that he was being sneaky enough that we would not notice the glances he was giving us, belying the fact he was very new even further.
After he guided us to the office, the other two entered the room first, however I hung back for a second, stopping to talk to the young man briefly saying, "Thank you very much for leading us here, have this candy as a sign of appreciation for me, I made it myself, so don't hold back and enjoy it," before heading into the office along with my compatriots.
Upon entry, Iwe were greeted by a well dressed blonde woman, probably in her late twenties, possibly early thirties if age was kind to her. She wore a nice suit and glasses, which led me to wonder if she was near sighted or far sighted, though I quickly dismissed that idle thought and got down to the business of introducing the squad, as it seemed the other two had tacitly designated me as our representative and expected me to do all the talking, which considering their social skills, was probably the wisest course of action.
"Yes, we are the representatives the IACSB sent. I am Arwen Drake, and this is Lili von Brandt, and we are both third class members of the Supernatural Investigation Division," I said, quickly pausing to gesture at my lupine companion before continuing on, "And this is Edwin Melchiott, a third class member of the Technological and Magical Research Division who is here to assist us in researching the incident at hand," I said, briefly pausing again to gesture at Edwin.
"As you seem eager to get down to business, I would like to ask a few questions relating to the incident at hand, maybe you have more knowledge of some of the specifics as you are closer to the incident than we are. I would be very grateful if you could give us a brief run down of the details you have about the incident at hand, just in case you have some information that the IACSB might have missed," I say to the woman giving a brief smile before continuing, "Of course, this goes both ways, feel free to ask any questions you have of us as well, and I will answer them to the best of my abilities."

The young officer flushed lightly at receiving a treat and simply muttered an embarrassed thanks before scuttling away back to his usual duties. The three have entered the office and now there was the Chief that sat in front of them as introductions were being passed around. The woman nodded at each introduction of the wolf-ish girl, the nerd, and the elf. She had the look of someone who was tired and worn out. While her attire was formal and reached the standards of professionalism, the untidiness of her sleeves rolled up to her elbows and the bags under her eyes are apparent. But the chief officer was at least coherent enough to understand what is being said to her and to keep talking and barking out orders. That was the least it was expected of her, after all. It helps to have a bit of coffee and Red Bull in the system, thus explaining why there's an opened tab near the computer to the left of her. "Chief of Police Miranda Adler, good to see you all," she finally introduced herself as she offered her hand to shake to each I.A.C.S.B. member. Adler definitely lacked any reservation, maybe partly due to the exhaustion. She doesn't seem at all fazed by the elf or wolf ears, "I'll get someone to get you a seat. Hold on."She stood from her seat and circled around them to poke her head out of the door. The same neophyte was just passing through the hallway again with arms overloaded with papers. She ordered him, "Hey, Bartley! Get me some chairs for our guests."He looked at the Chief with a peeved look, but resigned while knowing better to not go against her. The door immediately closed shut on him and the sound of cascading papers and Bartley groaning in exasperation could be heard from behind. Yet, she gave no concern while walking back to her seat and taking one more sip of her can of Red Bull. Her attention was focused back on the elf, who gave no doubt in her mind that she was the spokesperson and possibly the leader of this supernatural trio. The other two, seemed very determined to keep their lips shut. Miranda wonders why. "I can work with that," she nodded in agreement, "Alright. Then let's start with our big culprit. We have one video camera stashed on one of our officers. It's our only 'workable' one. The rest are ruined by damage or didn't even show it at all."Adler's fingers started to rattle against the computer's keyboards and clicked on a few things with the mouse. She then turned the monitor around to show them a Quicktime Player window. The quality was blurry given the nature of modern security tapes. But in it was showing the perspective of a police officer as evidenced by the hands in front holding a model of a Glock pistol and a flashlight. Even in front of it was a black blur. She pressed on the space bar and it played. The video was still blurred and unsteady.
There was an unnatural growl. No, something was clicking, twitching. Something was in here with the officer and he couldn't quite see it and couldn't really make out where it was coming from. Breathing was heavy, a mixture of dread and anxiety. Then there was a loud thud that cracked the dark asphalt behind him. He turned around to see something big. Something that just wasn't of this world. A spider. A huge spider with a human-like torso. Its maw slowly opened in expectation as threads of saliva connected each parted fang. The alleyway didn't have much to provide lighting, but it's clear that it easily reached eight feet in height. There was even some odd interference on the video as it nearly completely blurred its shape. "OH, HELL NO!"The alleyway was filled with the cacophony of shots being fired. Lead ricocheted off of what is likely to be some kind of protective skin. The dark path was filled with the clattering of spider-like movement to close the distance between its fangs and its new meal. The officer screamed with each useless shot as he tried to run, "NO! FUCK YOU! STAY THE FU-- NOOOO!"Something sank through his flesh and caused him to gag. It couldn't show as he had his back turned. There was a blur on the screen and something landing to the asphalt. The view was now sideways from the perspective of the ground while watching the poor man in black. The blurred creature straddled him and sank down its head to start ea--
The video paused. That was all it had to show. "And there you have it. Our culprit."

"Well, damn." Edwin thought to himself.
What did you say to something like that, exactly? Edwin wasn't sure what he'd been expecting for his first ever mission involving a demon, but he hadn't expected it to be what was, essentially, a giant man-eating spider. While normally Edwin had no fear of spiders, the fact that it was not only huge but that bullets seemed to not even faze the damn thing chilled him. Edwin grabbed his right arm, trying to force it to stop shaking in front of anyone.
Then again, it was a police-issue Glock pistol that was firing. Perhaps shotgun shells would have more effect, and their weaponry was state of the art. If nothing else, surely his incendiary rounds would at least make it back off, but he was pretty convinced with the few he carried Edwin had no chance of killing it save for a critical hit.
Also fortunate was the fact that the spider wasn't really his problem. Leave that to Lili and Arwen - they seemed to have more experience or at least were better equipped to try and fight. Edwin's job was to try and figure out what he could about the gate it was coming out of - which unfortunately, the video had shown absolutely nothing about. "Fantastic. Has no-one been able to get information about this gate yet, or is it just that no-one cares?" he thought to himself. "You'd think someone outside the IACSB could see the potential here!"
Well, right now that wasn't a primary factor. "Alright Edwin, take your time, break it down. What is it? Where is it? When does it attack? How do we kill it?" Edwin figured the IACSB have some information about this demon or something similar - and once he got back into the van he could check out their databases. As to how, that was impossible to know without more information, only that a front-on attack with anything short of a rocket launcher seemed pointless...though then again, they had weaponry beyond 'state-of-the-art', so there was a chance. "The inside of it's body might be a weak point, but of course, no evidence to suggest that." Edwin pondered to himself, but again - no evidence to support that claim. It was all conjecture anyway - Lili and Arwen were the soldiers and would probably be the ones taking responsibility of fighting it, so it would be better for them to make the attack plans.
But there was some things the police might answer. "First questions - where and when do these attacks take place?" Edwin asked Adler. "Is there any pattern? And have any of your force seen the Gate that it comes out of?" Perhaps Arwen would have put the questions more delicately, but the longer this thing roamed San Francisco, the worse things got. San Francisco already seemed like it could quite easily teeter into a state of total panic, and Edwin had a bad feeling that time wasn't on their side.

Letting Arwen do the talking, Lili just glanced about absent-mindedly as the introduction went on – she was already beginning to fidget on the spot, unable to keep her canine side in check… patience wasn’t always her best point; at least while her hybrid side was in play. Still, she gave Miranda a polite nod of acknowledgement for her greeting; albeit leaving her own introduction up to Arwen. She liked it when the half-elf said her full name… it sounded nice. Still, Lili’s attention was at least regained by the video – how exciting! It was like one of those movies that her first handler liked so much. Aliens and whatever. Admittedly, the half-werewolf didn’t seem to flustered by the contents… not so much due to a lack of fear, but more a lack of sympathy. But, to her credit, she was already thinking about how the beast would be buckled. It was a spider, right? So its legs would be all spindly. So, just squash it… it was no surprise that bullets wouldn’t do much. Unfortunately, Lili was a bit behind on the thinking than Edwin – business like ‘when’, ‘where’ and ‘why’ didn’t much matter to the ex-hitman. She just sort of got pointed at a victim and did her job rather than worrying about this business. Thinking like this was hard! Especially with her werewolf side on the job! She thought they’d just show up and start breaking things! Her impatience getting to her a little bit more, the girl began to twitch uncomfortably… probably not a surprising reaction to that video, albeit a misleading one. ”Just one…?” asked the girl quietly, as verbose as ever; but at least getting her question out there rather than just leaving it up to the other two. Lili gently tilted her head in thought as she posed the question, seeming to quickly get lost in her own musings rather than listening too hard to whatever answer came her way – assuming there even was one; she wasn’t exactly easy to hear over Edwin or Arwen.

"Thank you, Officer Bartley, would you like some candy? I made them myself? No need to be shy, it is simply my thanks for bringing us these chairs," I said to the man, taking my seat after he left. And it was a good thing I did, given the subject matter of the video at hand. Despite the fact I was prepared for something gruesome, it still always bothered me, even if I did not show it on the outside. So the target in this case was a drider. That struck a little odd, as from what I had heard of foreign demons, they tended to look less like beings of this world, and more like strange abominations, however I could easily be mistaken. However, the doubt niggled at the back of my mind that this could be something other than a demon, and I began to think about other people who could create beings like this. A few came to mind, namely my fellow mages, however the vampires of Le Fleur de Orleans also came to mind.
With those thoughts in my head, I decided to ask the chief about other incidents that normally wouldn't be associated with demons, however would allow me to see if my other theories were correct. "Chief, I have a few questions. From this video and the intel we got, it seems like the "Demon" we are facing doesn't seem to quite fit the bill for a foreign demon, at least in my mind. Do you mind if I ask some questions that explore other possibilities?" I asked, beginning my investigation. "For example, is this the only video we have? Or is it the only one with very good quality? Can you make out the Demon in others, and does it match the appearance of this one if so?" I asked, confirming if it was indeed one unique enemy we were facing. "Furthermore, have there been any murders or missing persons cases around that seem like they involve supernatural parties? Such as unusual vampire attacks or abductions that are out of the norm, perhaps like an irresponsible mage taking test subjects?" I ask her, trying to see if there might be other powers at work behind this rash of murders. After all it was important to know our enemy, and it could very well change our approach on the case if it was indeed something else rather than a foreign demon at work here.
"I'm sorry for being a bother, however I cannot bring my team into a situation without getting all available data on the situation, after all, if we go about this the wrong way, we could very easily lose our lives, I hope you understand our caution," I say, explaining why I was pelting her with questions. I would not lead my team, who I considered friends, into an unknown situation where they could very well die if I made the wrong call. I would not let them die, I could not let them die, not only for their sake, but for my families. It would be a dark spot on my record if my teammates died on me during a mission, which could very easily end my career in the IACSB if it was bad enough, which would mean the duty would fall upon one of my siblings, which was something I absolutely could not allow under any circumstances.
"So if you have any information relating to supernatural activities in the area, no matter how minor or irrelevant it may seem to the case at hand, I would very much appreciate it if you would give me at least the rundown of it, Chief," I said, giving her a serious expression, just to underline how important my request was.

Miranda Adler And now the questions started coming forward. Clearly there was concern and Miranda could sympathize with that. The T.A.M.R.D. agent was surprisingly the first to speak before the more talkative Arwen, but she listened and nodded. She exited the Quicktime Player window. This time the Chief pulled up a web browser and merely opened up a Google Map of the whole city. On it was a clear indicator of where the Police Department was. "All of them happened during late night of varying times, around ten and three. A good number of them happened around here. But there doesn't seem to be any real habits, it's indiscriminate. It just goes around and does it," Adler answered Edwin and then pointed the cursor around Chinatown, Embarcadero, and the Tenderloin, "Just yesterday it happened in Chinatown, while it happened all the way over in Embarcadero. And it's been a bit difficult to pinpoint any patterns except they've all been happening around these districts. Even with all these killings, none of us have yet to find the Gate. All our witnesses just happened to be the G.H.A. that hangs out in parts of these districts and they've just recently started doing vigilante work on their own since they have this thing of not working with the government."She sighed at the memory of dealing with these self-righteous homeless gits stinking up the office with their stench. But, that was the least of her problems. Adler took another irritable sip of her Red Bull. She glanced back at Agent Lili who finally broke her silence. "Evidence gives us the idea that there's one going around to kill people. The M.O. stayed pretty consistent so far. So it's probably just one going around and who knows if another is going to pop up. she shrugged nonchalantly at this and asked, "But that's why you guys are here, right? To kill that thing and finally patch up that Gate or something?"She took another sip from the can and found it empty. The officer frowned in exasperation and flicked it over to the plastic trash can near her. She raised an eyebrow at the possibility of that thing not being a demon, but nodded at Arwen's request to question her and continue the Q&A session. "It's all we got, Agent Drake. Everything else were either destroyed by time we retrieved it from our forces or it was unable to show the creature at all. This is the best we've got to offer. But as far as other forms of supernatural involvement..." she paused to think about it and tapped her fingernails against the desk as if it were to help her try to remember some important details. She closed her eyes for a moment while tapping away, and then opened them again. Miranda clicked her tongue in displeasure, "We do have have the Court of Fangs behaving themselves in the Embarcadero and Financial Districts, we believe they haven't done anything since all they would do is just drink blood and wouldn't go this far to make a scene. It just doesn't fit them or the M.O. They're the vampires that dominate the area and if one of their own or their kind are in a Frenzy, then they would've told us by or killed it now to cover their asses. The G.H.A. are righteous bastards, so they're unlikely to do this. The Guild doesn't have a footing around here in San Francisco and lack substantial territory, so it's going to take time to get necessary information for them. And that's all I know about most supernatural stuff around here off the top of my head, but you could look through our database if you want."She gave an apologetic look at Arwen and the rest of the I.A.C.S.B. team. This wasn't much information, but it was something. "But, it looks like you're going to want to talk with the hobos--"A door slammed open, interrupting the Chief. She jolted at the sudden noise and looked up to see Bartley with a worried and hurried look on his face. Miranda could already tell what this was going to be about as a grimace started to form on her expression. "Chief, shit's going down in Tenderloin. We got officers calling in for back up. It's the killer. It has to be.""Mobilize S.W.A.T. and get other officers to evacuate the civilians in there. Tell those guys there to hold it off as long as they can. We'll get there," she ordered. He nodded and ran off to see to it they were being carried out. Miranda looked back at the team. "Please help us out here, even with S.W.A.T., I don't think we can hold it off."

Edwin looked over the map, trying to see any kind of pattern - but like Adler had said, there didn't seem to be anything in particular - the only thing Edwin could see was that there seemed to be a path between the highway and the sea, and even that seemed like more of a coincidence then a grand plan - though surely it wouldn't hurt to keep all of that in mind. “So what she seems to be saying is that this is still far too random. Great – figuring out a plan of attack would have been nice…and even none of those homeless know about the damn Gate. I know it’s only there for short periods of time but surely someone must have seen it…”
Edwin barely heard the other information – yes, there was most likely only one of the things (thank whatever god you believed in). Then Arwen started talking and Edwin started zoning out – it was impossible for him to even try keeping up with that woman, and the fact that Adler could was testament to her ability as Chief of Police. As far as Edwin could tell, the summary was ‘There’s one of the damn things and nobody we know’s controlling it. Besides that, we know sweet nothing’.
If Edwin was almost starting to fall asleep, he certainly wasn’t by the time the door smashed open. He spun around, hand instinctively reaching towards his weapon, but fortunately it was just the kid that had led them all up here, looking panicked like hell was on his tails. Considering his report that the killer – or demon, or whatever in the hell it was – was attacking, this was not an incorrect statement. “Dammit, already? I hoped we’d have at least a little time to prepare. And worse – I still know next to nothing about the Gate! What the hell are these idiots at the TAMRD thinking, do they expect me to chase phantoms?!” Edwin thought to himself.
Well, there was no point in sulking about it – the only lead Edwin had to his own mission of finding out anything about the Gate was the demon itself, now. And if that involved conflict with the demon, then he was basically going to have to default to Arwen. He reached into his pocket and grabbed the keychain to the IACSB van. “I’ll get the van started; unless you’ve got anything else to ask the chief we’d better get moving before we lose the damned thing.” He told Arwen, before running out the door towards the parked van, pressing a series of buttons on the keychain device to unlock the doors as he ran towards the van.
For a split second, as he raced past various police officers and coffee, he wondered if he looked odd. Then as he reached outside and saw the IACSB van waiting to be warmed up, he thought “Nah” as he opened the door, leapt in and loaded in the keys, flipping all the controls around as fast as he could.

The further information just seemed to fly over Lili’s head – she listened, but she didn’t much care. So long as there was a location and a target, she was comfortable. Familiar territory at last. No more staring at paperwork. For a while, anyway. Did she need to write an obituary for the demon for the IACSB, too? Hahah. Well, she laughed now, but with all the garbage she’d been through so far… it wouldn’t be much of a surprise. She was already beginning to hate seeing her own signature… Talk of more supernatural business… vampires, gross. Maybe it was just her werewolf bias, but someone made her really angry about that particular brand of inhumans. Hazy memories of her childhood settled on her mind – what childhood, again? She couldn’t remember much at all… but she knew that she shouldn’t bow down to those things. Someone said that, once. Parents? Friends? Comrades? She didn’t remember. But it was someone important. So, it was important, right? At least she got her question answered – just one beastie to deal with. Three on one… it shouldn’t be a problem, so long as Arwen lived up to her whining about magic and the boy was a keen shot with that gun of his; or maybe just had a more violent driving style. There was a good idea. That was the sort of solution her old friends in Germany would have come up with – fun! Lili smiled for a moment, enjoying the memory; but quickly returned to her stoic nature. Thankfully, there was a welcome distraction – action! Time to move at last! Lili’s ears twitched with excitement, while the girl herself just looked a bit surprised… or maybe just curious. Like a cat with a new toy, she seemed eager to join the force; darting along behind Edwin as he lead the group. Even though she’d usually haunt around Arwen, this time she was too excited to hold back. Besides… the elf had already proven she didn’t have the stomach for this stuff. Maybe it would be best if she got a little left behind instead. Jumping into the van with expedience similar to her human comrade, albeit for a vastly different reason, Lili quietly unloaded and reloaded her revolver in an effort to calm herself with the familiar movement – she was getting too excited. Her werewolf instincts were flaring up… it was time for a fight! She wanted to howl and bark; rage around as she pleased! But… now was not the time. Yet. ”I’m starving…”

The officer answered all of our questions to the best of her abilities, giving us detailed descriptions as to the pattern of attack, and mentioned that no other videos existed, as they were all destroyed. The only other supernatural forces she knew of in the area were the Court of Fangs, the Global Homeless Association. and possibly some guild involvement, however they were not very well established. That cut out a lot of other options it could be, as the other two groups besides the guild were very predictable, and it definitely did not fit either of their MO's. I could not rule out a radical guild member however, so I decided to keep that in the back of my mind. I decided that we should probably ask the GHA and Court of Fangs if they had any more information, as they were probably both far more in tune with the supernatural happenings of the area.
However, before we could put this plan into action, the door to the office flew open, and the officer who had gotten us the chairs earlier flew into the office and informed us of the bad news. Apparently the foreign demon had appeared in an area named Tenderloin, and officers were calling for backup, and the chief asked us for our help, as she realized that they did not stand a chance against it even with the SWAT team. "Of course, Chief. I would have gone even if you had not requested us to," I said, giving her a resolute answer, "Do not worry, we will handle this, and I assure you I will prevent as many deaths as I can," I finished, before dashing out of the room, following behind the other two who had already left while I was talking to the Chief.
I quickly made my way to the van, and slamming the door shut behind me, as the other two had already entered it. I immediately opened up the case that I carried my bow and arrows in and put them on, my quiver behind my hips and my bow in my hands. After strapping in, I applied my fire talismans to ten of my arrows, ones specially designated for it, their feathers slightly different so I could easily tell the difference in the heat of combat.
With that complete, I settled into my seat and began to strategize on how exactly would be best to take out this particular enemy. It was a foreign demon with the bottom of a spider, and the upper body of a human, from what I could tell from the video. That meant that the lower body would be pretty tough to harm with piercing attacks, the exoskeleton being more than likely made of hard chitin. That meant I would have to focus my arrows on the top half for maximum damage, and lsince blunt attacks would still be fairly effective, the lower half would be left to Lili, as she was the melee expert in the team, and specialized in blunt damage. Edwin would probably not be of too much use in combat, as his main weapon was a shotgun, which would probably not do too much against the enemy, unless he used slugs. With that in mind I began to tell the other two what I had in mind.
"Lili, Edwin. Here is my plan. I will stay at a bit longer range, supporting with arrow fire to anywhere that seems fleshy, at least in comparison to the chitinous bottom it appeared to have. Lili, I will leave keeping its attention and dealing damage to its chitinous parts to you Focus your strikes on its legs, as it is far more likely for you do do decent damage to them rather than the main body, as they are fairly spindly in comparison to the rest of it. Edwin, are those incendiary rounds of yours for your shotgun solid slugs? If so, please try to put some rounds into its abdomen, as it is probably the only thing we have that will have a decent chance of penetrating its chitin. If not, coordinate with the police and stay out of danger, as buckshot would probably not only be ineffective, but it could accidentally hit Lili if your aim is off. Any questions?" I asked the group, just to make sure they had the plan down.

The great mechanical beast started to roar, a heart of steel and gears slowly beginning to beat. Edwin entered in the co-ordinates in the van's GPS for Tenderloin, kicked down the accelerator and the van roared off down the street. The van didn't seem to have sirens - which was odd, since you'd think this was rather an oversight, or maybe Edwin just hadn't found them yet. Whatever the case, Edwin drove as fast as he dared down the streets of San Francisco, silently swearing to himself. If they missed their chance to attack now, there was no way to tell when they'd get another - and it was going to result in some serious collateral damage.
He still wasn't quite sure how he was driving a van so well, but there wasn't much time to think about that. Several times during the drive he slammed the horn, trying to get what traffic he could out of his way. "Move, dammit! We've got a goddamn demon attacking the city and we have to worry about the bloody traffic?!" If they survived this, Edwin was going to make sure to put in a request to be trained to drive - or possibly something that could force cars off the road in a hurry. Still, fortunately, most of the traffic seemed to be driving away from the area, so at least in this case once they got past the initial flood of cars coming there way the road got much easier to drive on quickly.
It was difficult enough to focus on driving as it was, so when Arwen started talking it took an immense amount of effort to both listen to her and focus at the same time. Still, somehow he managed it, if only because things were going to get really bad. And still nobody was paying attention to his mission to look for the Gate - at this point, he really was starting to think someone in the TAMRD was just messing with him - but there wasn't time to start joking about it. "Most of my rounds are buckshot. The incendiary rounds are designed to be solid slugs, but I've only got about six. I can't carry much of them, or otherwise they'll explode in my pockets. And besides that, do you realise how close I'm going to have to be in order to be able to do any kind of damage? If I get the chance I will, but I'm no soldier. In case you forgot - like everyone else seems to have - I've still got to figure out what's going on with the Gate, if I can even find the stupid thing." People still seemed to have forgotten his mission in the race to kill this demon - which was, to be fair, understandable, but ever more frustrating to Edwin.
The GPS beeped out a warning - Tenderloin was getting close. "I'll keep back with the police as much as I can. Best place for me to be anyway, I can forward any of your orders to the police while you focus on killing the damn thing." Edwin responded, focused on the road. "I hope you two know what you're doing, because our ETA is only a few minutes away."

Arwen’s explanation just earned an idle nod from the werewolf – she’d figured out her role as soon as she saw the spider, so she didn’t much care for the pep talk. Well, being asked to be in the line of fire was a bit worrying; she hadn’t seen Edwin’s accuracy yet… plus he seemed particularly panicky at the moment. But oh well. She’d been shot before. Buckshot wasn’t as bad as proper rounds, in her opinion. Laceration wasn’t such a big deal with her regeneration, for the most part. Still hurt like hell, but… ”I’ll break it… is that okay?” mused Lili, glancing at their irate driver – he was supposed to be playing doctor or something after this, right? So maybe she shouldn’t just wreck whatever beastie they ended up with. Not dying seemed a bit more important, but sacrifices had to be made for a job, so that was okay too. Hopefully Arwen wouldn’t die, though… that’d make Lili feel angry. The thundering van jolted the girl as Edwin took a hard corner, although she still seemed as bemused as always about their impending fight. ”Use the incendiary rounds on its head, if we’re close… otherwise, just shoot the chest. The fire probably won’t ignite properly on the exoskeleton, but it might distract it.” said the hybrid idly, looking more like she was daydreaming than she was planning – and certainly sounded like it. ”Oh, I guess you could attack its back if you’re worried… I don’t really care.”

"I'm pleased to hear you're all formulating a plan in such short notice," a familiar voice is being emitted through the radio, "I already have had a view of the enemy, we've only got one so far and you had best hurry. Agent Melchiott, in the glove box, there is a box of shells that have been enchanted with runecraft by a magician from the same division as you. It's a tracker, the moment you use it on the target, the GPS will begin tracking it. Please make use of it. Do your best to deal with this thing. Good luck."If one of them have heeded Eichorn's suggestion about the glove box, they would find that there is a small plastic box. Upon opening it are a number of green slug shells. Around the brass head is a circle of carved runes. Inert as they are, they would activate upon firing them. Melchiott has obtained: Name: Enchanted Tracking Shells Rank: E Description: Shotgun shells that come in slug form. They have been carved with runes to allow it to start emitting special mana signatures that the I.A.C.S.B.'s equipment can start keeping track of. In the case of the van, the G.P.S. can start picking upon the signatures to start tracking enemies that have been hit by these shells.
10:40 And they have finally arrived. Through the windshield or any of the windows, the team could see it on the middle of the street where cars should've been driving through. The horrific scene as a spider-like creature just decapitated the head of an officer, allowing it to fly a couple feet in the air before landing onto the asphalt with a thud. Around the Horror, there were already bodies of several officers all deceased and torn to pieces as three cars have just been totaled by the damage caused by the creature. Now more have come, the I.A.C.S.B. and the S.W.A.T. team. Other officers, not as equipped like the S.W.A.T., have kept themselves out of the battlefield and were busying themselves on getting the civilians out of the area. The armored men readied themselves with CAR-15 rifles, there was intense tension between them. They were meeting face to face with the monster that killed many of their fellow men-in-duty. It screamed in delight, the volume nearly ear-splitting. Now, it had new playmates to play. Ability Used: Name: Nemesis Description: The common ability of the Horrors. Because of their completely unnatural existence, they give off an aura that easily cause fear, anxiety, and other such negative emotions on the people around them (except their fellow Horrors). Those affected will take a total of three minus modifiers in their physical stats. This can be resisted by mental-resisting/emotional-resisting abilities or something of Bravery's nature. However, those who are easily sensitive to their environment will also take an additional - modifier. Especially those of elven lineage. The existence of these Horrors can cause some electronics to work improperly or at an inferior quality. Thus, requiring special equipment to deal with them. Rank: D
MISSION OBJECTIVES
- Eliminate it or force it to run while still having the tracking shell on it.
- Optional: Keep it in "one piece" upon elimination.
