PERSONAL INFORMATION

Appearance:
Even for his age Rosaire looks quite young and noticeably effeminate; standing at about 5’ tall and weighing about 40 kilograms. Very slim and trim with bright green eyes and curly, chest-long blonde hair; usually framing a tiny but bright smile or nervous frown. He tends to show his emotions very clearly, especially with his physical gestures and posture.
Partially thanks to his sheltered upbringing and partially thanks to just his blind idealism, Rosaire tends to dress rather erratically and has something of a bad habit of ending up in more effeminate clothing simply out of the pretense that ‘it looks good’. That said, he doesn’t seem to bothered by confusion about his gender or any bad implication of his habits; simply doing what he likes at least when it comes to fashion. Casually, he wears a small white hoodie and white denim shorts; alongside his holy scarf.
While on work for the Church, though; he wears a custom blue and white nun’s habit he was allowed to keep as an Apostle; albeit shortened to emphasise that despite its symbolism he is male – unfortunately, he just wears a pair of black shorts under it as he doesn’t care much for the odd look. On some occasions he will wear the proper Church coat and such, but he feels it seems too intimidating which hurts his friendly approach to things a lot. But in all cases, he of course wears his Holy Relic.
Personality:
A typical story amongst the newer members of the Church’s field agents; Rosaire is fiercely devout – every day has several hours dedicated to prayer and ritual, every comrade is met with a blessing and prayer for their health and safety, and every problem deserves a prayer for guidance and help. Although far from as assertive as most of his compatriots amongst the Church, he lives by the word of the Lord. Admittedly, his kind nature holds him back from taking it too literally, but in the end the holy book is his code of ethics, his guide and mentor, and his closest friend.
Though he is quite shy, Rosaire has a certain bouncy nature to his demeanour, akin to that of a child – unsurprising, really; as he is still frightfully naïve akin to one as well. He was taught everything he knew by the nuns who raised him and the bible, and thus often struggles with reality; especially when it comes to the supernatural or the grim truths of life. Still, despite meeting these obstacles every day now that he is a proper Apostle, he still seems to bring a smile and a pinch of spring to his step; a seemingly endless idealism following him throughout life. His lack of experience with the world gives him just as much joy from his discoveries as it does grief, it seems; at least when he’s not busy trembling in a corner.
On the subject of trembling in a corner, Rosaire is utterly petrified of Mystic Kind – while he can at least stand up to magus and psychics, monsters leave him quivering in his boots courtesy of his history with their kin. Despite his confidence in everyday life, Rosaire can be a bit of a scaredy-cat in general on the field; although it’s hard to blame him too much for it given his lack of combat training or abilities. A few words of encouragement and the occasion sprinkling of gratitude can generally keep him on his feet, but on the whole he would much rather focus on more menial duties like healing or blessing rather than deal with danger too much.
Despite his devout nature, Rosaire still has a few vices that have slipped through his studies as an apostle and his righteous path; not to mention his utter naivety. Sweets are particularly a weakness of his childish side, although they are still a treat he rarely indulges in; and his tastes in fashion often lean towards the expensive. Still, to his credit his hobbies are quite constructive; with reasonable skill in playing the organ and singing as per his part in the Church’s occasional ceremonies.
History:
Rosaire has always been indebted to the Church, ever since his home on the rural outskirts of France was met with the brunt of a demon outbreak while he was only six or seven – unsurprisingly, it didn’t end too well for the village; leaving the place in ruins and most of the population slaughtered. This would have been traumatic enough for the newly made orphan, but to follow it up the boy was left for three days cowering alone in his home’s basement; a thankfully well-built wine cellar. The one time he ventured out he was met with the scene of his family’s burnt remains – alongside a venturing demon; thankfully slow-witted enough to give him a chance to retreat once more. While the door was battered by the feral attacker, it held firm… Rosaire’s psyche was not quite so lucky.
Finally, he was found as the place was purged by the Church; but a minor invasion for them to handle and thus hardly a problem – but to find a survivor was a bit of a surprise. Unendingly thankful to be found alive Rosaire left with the Church and was left in the hands of a nunnery-ran orphanage. As he grew up in the sheltered new home, Rosaire became as devout as one would expect with his introduction to the religion; sure that his survival must have been a miracle. Admittedly, his mentors and caretakers weren’t exactly so sure, but it was certainly evidence enough for him.
At sixteen, Rosaire had become a devout part of the Church; being brought up in one of the schools in Saint-Denis. His life seemed to settle from there on; quietly relishing his part in the Church. He soon became involved with a range of extra-curricular activities related to the religion and its services; gaining a bit of a name for himself amongst the local community for it – a natural pick for a full member of the organisation. The main thought was that he would make an ideal clergyman; as his past was sure to have filled him with an interest in vengeance against the demonic hordes… however, this was not the case, as those close to him could attest to. He simply did not have any hate.
However, it seemed disaster followed him into his adolescence, as the school became an inferno in what was assumed to be an arson attack courtesy of one of the supernatural minority groups – thankfully it was intended as more of a message rather than an act of violence and the crime was committed upon the main school building during a weekend… unfortunately, some souls were intent on extra-curricular activities that particularly took place on a Sunday. Rosaire was among them… and left Church officials astonished as he walked out of the blaze untouched; alongside the terrified students. Like in the Book of Daniel, they had simply walked through the furnace – a miracle; and this time an unarguable one.
The truth of the matter was not quite so grandiose, admittedly; as the students hadn’t been far from the door at all; but Rosaire’s calmness in the disaster that clashed with his usual nervous nature was perhaps miraculous enough as it was. With the act in mind, he was naturally snapped up as an Apostle.
Over the next two years, he was shaped into a true Apostle and a member of the Church’s field group – the boy insisted on being able to help people in need personally; and unfortunately that really only meant one kind of duty amongst the Church’s members. Still, with his devout nature and intent on showing his gratitude to the Church, he excelled in his studies… apart from the whole scaredy-cat part, but he really did do his best! Now intent on showing his worth despite his youth, Rosaire is up and ready for his first mission.
STATISTICS
Faith: D (30 Units) – As an apostle with a particularly devout lifestyle, Rosaire takes a lot of pride in their faith and its training and practice.
Strength: F – Unsurprisingly given his frame, Rosaire is not exactly a strong soul.
Endurance: F – Again, Rosaire has little to no serious physical training.
Agility: F – Although he has a light frame, Rosaire has never really trained in their athletics.
LOADOUT
Holy Relic
Name: Shroud of Shadrach
Rank: D
Relic Appearance: A thick, two-metre long white scarf with the phrase ‘Filius Deus Sicut’ written across one end of it in silver; while its ends are styled as angelic wings.
Tattoo Appearance: A scroll spread across the top of his back that reads ‘Filius Deus Sicut’; carried by an angel on each end.
Description: When activated while being worn, the Shroud of Shadrach allows Rosaire to seek divine escape akin to the namesake – however, in a rather more embarrassing and unimpressive fashion. Using just an influx of 10 units of Faith to activate and deactivate rather than being a constant effect, the scarf makes Rosaire and any belongings on his person shrink to 2-3” tall. While in this state, any mechanical equipment beyond some simple radios will not work – firearms and so forth are useless although they are scaled down properly; leaving Rosaire to fare on his own – suffice to say, swords and the like on this scale are rather ineffective as well. After all, the application is intended to stealth, not any kind of offensive means.
On the other hand, though; Rosaire is similarly divinely protected while in this state as his strength is compacted into such a small form. Although he isn’t about to punch out people’s shins, being stomped on or the like won’t exactly work without a lot of effort on his attacker’s part; aiding the form’s focus on escape. Otherwise, though; Rosaire is effectively the same as he is at his normal height – he can still perform holy rituals, regenerate Faith (thank goodness) and generally function like any other human being.
Rites surrounding the Shroud of Shadrach are projected upon their wearer, even if it is not Rosaire himself – however, only his Faith will be drained and only he can activate them with the required incantations, and he must be physically holding the scarf to be able to do so. Additionally, the scarf’s main effect regrettably activates as a sort of ‘defence mechanism’; meaning that should Rosaire get too scared or the like it will also activate – hopefully leading to a handy escape, but often leading to a more awkward situation than anything given his frightful nature.
Equipments:
Name: Body Armour
Rank: E
Description: A protective ballistic vest which is worn over the chest and torso; typically bearing the Church’s insignia across the chest in a grandiose manner. While still somewhat tough, it does not mean that they are going to be completely protected from the real monsters in the supernatural world. At best covers the internals and important organs while leaving the limbs unprotected for maximum mobility. As the Church takes pride in being very recognisable and intimidating, this armour is only used in duties that are acknowledged as especially dangerous by the organisation – they would much rather their work is known as that of the Church’s to the public courtesy of their iconic garb and weaponry; the more blatantly so the better.
Name: Radio
Rank: E
Description: Basic radio assigned to each unit to communicate with the administration and control of the operation. Being a rather old model even by the Church’s standards as anything too technical would be useless when under the effects of his Holy Relic; Rosaire’s radio is more akin to an old tape recorder and often requires a lot of fiddling to get it into working order even while on the field. Regardless, his radio still works off of the variety of radio channels used by the Church, but is able to pick up other channels perfectly fine. Ideally it can pick up transmissions from about 10km around in an urban environment; but in a clear area they can pick up transmissions at a range of around 15km.
Name: Blessing Implements
Rank: E
Description: A brown satchel filled with a variety of holy implements to allow for blessings and purifications on the field; although they are in no way enchanted and thus the rituals still certainly take their time compared to actual Church members specialised in the roles. While it does contain Holy Water and similar religious implements, their dilution and small quantities make them too impractical for any kind of offensive uses.
Uniforms:
Name: Nunnery Garb
Description: A blue, white and gold coloured nunnery garb; albeit cut off at about the thighs. While originally a full-length outfit, it was cut in two to act as an icon that Rosaire is not exactly a true nun regardless of his devout nature.
CAPABILITIES
Skills:
Name: Divine Sacrament of Healing
Description: The magical system of the Church. Though the organization calls them miracles that are bestowed upon its believers. Sacraments are the categories in which Rites are divided into. This is the skill where a Hunter has access to Rites. The rank of this skill determines how good you are at utilizing said Divine Sacrament and will be a big factor in determining how well advanced you are within your specialized field.
Rank: E
Name: Divine Sacrament of Blessing
Description: The magical system of the Church. Though the organization calls them miracles that are bestowed upon its believers. Sacraments are the categories in which Rites are divided into. This is the skill where a Hunter has access to Rites. The rank of this skill determines how good you are at utilizing said Divine Sacrament and will be a big factor in determining how well advanced you are within your specialized field.
Rank: E
Name: Medical Knowledge
Description: The general knowledge of the body and the tools needed to ensure its health and longevity. The field of applied science focusing on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. While somewhat held back by Rosaire’s lack of proper education in medicine beyond the Church’s training, his bedside manner and care for his patients is second to none.
Rank: E
Abilities:
Name: His Divine Mercy
Description: Whenever an individual wears Rosaire’s Shroud of Shadrach, they are treated as a human for the purposes of holy rites, artefacts and symbols; allowing the unholy to tolerate the holy and receive blessings or healing as a symbol of His divine forgiveness for those who walk in His path. When the scarf is removed, any current blessings or other continuing holy effects are immediately lost and the being’s natural repulsion from holy icons returns. It’s mostly used for the sake of taking hostages or live prisoners, but the occasional ‘enemy of my enemy’ makes it very useful as well.
Rank: D
Name: Purity of Body and Soul
Description: Every day Rosaire goes through an extensive purifying process for his body and mind, giving him a holy aura of purity that is above that of other Church agents who are predominantly not nearly as devout in their personal blessings. While still ‘pure’ from one of these daily renditions, Rosaire will resist one attempt at turning him to a member of a Mystic Kind capable of doing so and remains resistant for half an hour before his purity is lost until he performs his rituals again.
Being an internal effect, there is no indication of this resistance when it is activated; but supernatural beings capable of recognising holiness will be able to sense his pure aura while his purity is retained. This doesn’t act as any kind of repulsion to the unholy or the like, but is noticeable.
Rank: E
Name: Mortification of the Flesh
Description: While he does not have enough Faith to perform a rite, Rosaire can sacrifice his body to generate more. Rather than showing physical damage, though, this ability instead consumes his senses; leading him to lose his sight, voice, and hearing in that order with its usage. Each sacrifice gives him 5 additional units of Faith. Sacrificed senses are regained after he performs his purification ritual on himself again, although he still feels physical pain from the initial act despite its lack of visible damage.
Rank: E
Name: Faith
Description: The point where one's Faith can be realized through the Church's Sacraments, Rites, and other means of combating the supernatural through the Church's way. While not exactly mirroring a member's actual "faith", it is a quality that gives them power that can be harnessed. This is required for every member of the Church in order to use Sacraments/Rites or even Holy Relics.
Rank: D
Name: Stigmata
Description: The mark of the Christ. People who gain such a mark are known as the Apostles or the "Blessed". Stigmatas allow Apostles to gain access to the powers of a Holy Relic. The Relic they possess will have their rank always matching this ability. The Stigmata not only allows them to use Holy Relics, but also allows them to commune with old forgotten artefacts of Christian nature and whatever form of constructs that requires its presence.
Rank: D
Techniques/Spells:
Name: Walk of the Furnace (Shroud of Shadrach)
Incantation: Oh fourth, please walk with us as we enter the midst of the fires; and let no hurt come to the innocent whom herald you so they may forever serve His word.
Description: Once the incantation is completed, the Shroud of Shadrach projects an invisible spherical barrier around its wearer; of about one-metre in diameter. While active fire and smoke are unable to enter the sphere, and the heat surrounding the user is substantially dampened. The rite lasts for one hour, but can be performed in succession to extend the effect. The sphere can support another person inside it given its size, but they’d certainly need to huddle up.
Rank: E
Cost: 5 per hour
Type: Support
Name: Walk of the Fourth (Shroud of Shadrach)
Incantation: Oh fourth, please walk with me as I follow His path, and guide me gently into His embrace amongst the shadows of sin and selfishness.
Description: Upon completing the incantation, the scarf begins to flutter as if amongst gentle, invisible winds. Lasting for an hour, while this rite is active the wearer of the Shroud of Shadrach is able to cushion their falls; gently gliding instead of simply plummeting. However, this effect isn’t boundless, only allowing for about a 6 metre vertical drop before cutting out… however, while Rosaire is shrunken courtesy of the relic’s main ability, it still works up until 6 metres; making it quite convenient for getting about.
Rank: E
Cost: 5 per hour
Type: Support
Name: Embrace of the Father
Incantation:Have mercy on me, O God; offer your love, your abundant mercy, and forgive my transgressions and sins. Create in me a pure heart, and put right my body and spirit. Restore to me your salvation, and sustain my willing spirit. Please set my feet the true path once more, and lead me to everlasting path with your righteous hand.
Description: A lay-on-hands healing rite intended for long-term treatment, offering more pronounced effects over its time-span rather than an instant effect. While initially only being able to heal minor cuts and wounds over the course of the day of its usage, with each successive day of usage on a particular patient its effects become more noticeable. After a week’s worth of treatment, it is capable of mending minor broken bones and more severe lacerations. Though it can continue to be used beyond this point, it will only mildly increase the natural healing rate for damage beyond this – serious injuries are simply beyond its scope even with its stacking effect.
Although it is a technically powerful rite in terms of healing, it is particularly useful for acting as a sort of anaesthetic over its day-long duration once performed. This numbing effect of the body feels like a warmth surrounding the patient which eases their pain substantially, but also numbs them to all the world alongside it – it certainly isn’t ideal as a painkiller on the field.
Rank: E
Cost: 5 units
Type: Support
Name: Angel Touch
Incantation:Lord, please bless this icon with your radiance; and let it loose the fateful lightning of your terrible swift sword. Let us forever march on your path, and protect your word. The serpent shall not bite our heel, nor shall the devil tempt us; for we hold your will in our souls and our hands.
Description: A basic blessing rite allowing standard weapons and ammunition to be temporarily blessed akin to Consecrated Weapons. Upon performing the rite, one weapon or one small set of ammunition (a single magazine, a set of five arrows or bolts, etc.) is blessed to act as identically to a Consecrated Weapon for one hour. After this time, the blessing dissipates and the object is returned to its original state. Although it is redundant to use this rite upon a Consecrated Relic, Rosaire often does so upon his allies equipment as a show of respect and faith in his compatriots.
