BLOOD
Blood is the crimson nectar of the vampires. In the words of a vampire, this substance has been compared as the "heroin", "champagne", and even the "rack of lamb" for vampires. Blood is connected to their culture and to their survival. To vampires, it is the best thing they have ever tasted in their existence on this Earth. It brings them their power and pride. However, their dependence on blood is what causes many races to fear them as even they are included in their range of meals. As blood is connected to their survival, it also becomes an important factor in the state of their Beast. Thus it becomes imperative that they obtain enough blood to survive or lest the Beast will do it for them. Of course, that never goes well for everyone involved.
Normally to obtain blood, vampires must consume from living beings. Most of them are humans and they usually bite into their jugular vein. But when they bite into it, vampires call it The Kiss. As they insert their fangs into the vein, their victims tend to experience euphoria so as to not feel any pain. The experience is so potent that many are completely vulnerable during The Kiss or even some moments after it. Some vampires may even kill their victims by drinking them dry. But for some who wish to keep them alive, they do stop drinking before it gets dangerous for the victim. As fangs are retracted from the wound, vampires can lick the wound to seal it. Their saliva does have some healing properties.
As mentioned, blood is the source of a vampire's power as it is also their lifeline. Without it, they are unable to use their unique abilities. Blood, itself, has its potency gauged by age normally. Meaning the older the vampire, the more powerful it is. Since that vampire has fed on so many humans, they are even able to become ever powerful. However, only feeding on humans may even take hundreds or even thousands of years to reach the level near those of the Progenitor Elder Ones. This does not stop some vampires to strive to reach such power. In fact, diablerie is another subject to focus on.
Diablerie is an act of forcibly consuming the blood of elder kindred (a term vampire use to address others). Meaning they feed upon vampires older themselves. By doing this, they are forcibly stealing the accumulated potency of their victim's blood. It is known to be one of the fastest ways of gaining power, yet it is forbidden within Kindred society and many may actually execute the offender for breaking such laws. And most of these are usually other elder vampires in the society. Since how dare this mongrel try to uplift oneself to the realm of the nobles? Of course, even with society's stigma against it, the offender still has to deal with psychological risk as the essence within the blood will forcibly attempt to take over their body. Many fail and end up becoming a new vessel of the elder vampire they tried to consume. Others succeed and therefore made the power their own. Regardless of the risks, the act of diablerizing elder Kindred is indeed tempting. Especially when if there are news of mummified corpses of Elders, its existence could cause chaos to every Kindred in the world.
Of course, for extremely rare cases, some elder vampires may actually completely pass on their blood to lesser kindred. Normally it is kindred that they trust to continue some form of work. Some of these elder kindred perhaps are under a curse of sorts which seals away their power. The reasons are unknown for such cases. Nevertheless, nearly all elder kindred would refuse to do such a thing. But those who do are likely to be desperate.
Feeding on fellow kindred are not the only option for vampires. In fact, they could feed on supernatural species with power. A powerful Ki Artist or even a demon could serve as means for uplifting oneself into higher stages of power. However, that said, they would have to force such people to submit to them. And normally it must be done by force.
