PERSONAL INFORMATION

Appearance:
Rohan's a tall lad, standing at roughly 6'5, and weighing roughly 203 lbs, he's not scrawny or tiny by any stretch of the imagination. Well, unless you're an Ogre, but that's a whole different ballgame. Even in his youth he was fairly athletic, and his recent training has only accentuated this. He is not overly brawny, and it would be hard to mistake him for a body builder, but he is very clearly fit. Lean and defined would probably be the best words for it. He has dark brown hair that borders on black, and his eyes are a deep oak color. He has a naturally tanned complexion due to his mixed descent, but honestly speaking his american mother seemed to win the contest of genetics as far as the natural color of his skin goes. His time spent in India has helped to tan him further as he spent it mostly outdoors, but there is a stark difference between tan and dark skinned.
As far as apparel goes, Rohan is no stranger to "normal people clothes"; His grandfather has just forbidden him from wearing it. [Not that he always sticks to this rule, but that's neither here nor there.] His outfit usually consists of his traditional training garb: Clothes resembling the robes the practitioners of his style wear, but not quite. Crimson Arm Sleeves are the only coverings on the upper half of his body, leaving him without a shirt most of the time. He claims not to mind, but still feels like an exhibitionist sometimes walking around without a shirt on all the damn time. He's grown used to it, but still tends to avoid public areas whenever possible if he's wearing these.
He has a more official, one sleeved robes he throws atop this whenever he has to interact in a public area, but they are quite uncomfortable to train, meditate, or fight in, so he generally removes them for any of these activities.
Personality:
Neutral Good: Of the Passively Good variety. Rohan is not inspired to go commit good deeds on a daily basis, devoting his life to the cause. But he's a kind person at heart, and wouldn't think twice about helping someone who seemed to genuinely need it. Though whether he'd actually be helpful or not is another matter entirely. Combined with his somewhat slow wit and dulled social skills, he has a habit of misinterpreting situations as people needing help when in fact they're perfectly fine, or their manner of distress is one he's entirely unable to help with. This leads to many an awkward scenario.
Lacking Social Skills: Living in a Temple for several odd years has somewhat dulled Rohan's ability to socially interact with others. Add on top of that what was essentially a cram curriculum of Zen teachings of meditation, "inner peace", and other such inner reflection, and you come across someone who, while completely at peace with themselves, has somewhat forgotten what "normal" human interactions can be like. The basic things he has mostly down, but he's prone to forgetting what is and is not socially appropriate to say or do sometimes. He's recovering.
The Tin Man: He's got a mad case of resting bitch face these days. Well, it's more like "resting blank face", but a lot of the time that seems to be taken as resting bitch face anyway. The problem is he very rarely moves -off- his resting face. This makes him seem sometimes incredibly dull, or emotionless. While this goes very well with the whole zen thing he's supposed to be going for, it is in fact mostly a facade imparted onto him by his teachings. He can be just as emotional as any other person, and while he usually has a better rein on acting on his feelings compared to other people, this does not make him unsympathetic to others, or incapable of feeling. He just looks like it.
Good is Not Soft: As stated before, Rohan's a pretty nice guy deep down. Pretty reasonable, kind, and willing to help others. That said, he also is unafraid of beating people, or things into the ground should the need arise. If something is threatening his well being, or the well being of others, he wouldn't bat an eye at killing whatever that something is. Death is a natural component of life, and while life should be treasured, he is unafraid of ending the lives of things he deems dangerous to himself or others, to stop them from posing a danger in the present or future. While cold blooded murder is not his thing, foolish mercy is not in his character.
Simple Minded Wisdom: Rohan is not the brightest individual: While neither stupid nor dumb per-say, he was never the quickest individual in terms of raw intelligence. Oblivious is probably one of the best descriptors. Clever sometimes, but there is a stark difference between drastic intelligence and quick witted cleverness. However, especially since his training in India, he has gained a certain level of wisdom, and while his raw intelligence might not be devising any stratagems or advanced tactics anytime soon, he has a surprising amount of wisdom for the advantages of the simple and mundane things in life.
History:
Oh, where to start? I suppose the story of Rohan begins with his father, an Indian Monk, Ki Artist, Prodigy, Warrior, and all around stand up guy. I could go on and on about this dude for days but honestly most of it isn't really relevant to Rohan's story, so I'll spare whomever is reading this the details of that. The only really important thing he did was visit America, fall in love, marry, and then permanently move to the States. A few years later Rohan came into being, through a process I severely hope does not need to be described to you. If it does, Google it. I'm sure there's plenty of material on it.
Moving right along, Rohan was a rather ordinary kid growing up, really. His dad taught him a few things out of the ordinary compared to Kids his age sure, like learning how to speak Hindi growing up, some yogic teachings and some basic martial arts, but nothing beyond extraordinarily simple stuff that a kid whom attended Tae Kwon Do classes could learn if they tried for a long while. He was as normal as could be in a world where demons and magicians exist and are commonly accepted as every day things: A kid with a dad who 'knows Kung Fu' was pretty under the radar as far as standing out goes. His dad wasn't even an official Ki Artist-- Well, not officially. He retired when he left India, and tried to keep a low profile, so told basically everyone he just happened to know some martial arts-- Of the Non-Ki variety. Most people believed him.
Which is why nobody thought it was terribly odd when he died in a car wreck, along with Rohan's mother. Tragic, certainly, but not extraordinary. Rohan has always suspected some sort of foul play, but there is no evidence to the support this, and has since come to the conclusion that it was in fact a natural wreck. Either his father was rusty, or there was simply nothing to be done. He was obsessed with finding some conspiracy behind their deaths for a short while, but it was fruitless: Probably because it was in fact entirely an accident. No hidden plots, no mortal enemies enacting their revenge, no government conspiracies. Just an ordinary incident with tragic consequences.
It was during this period that Rohan ended up reaching out to his paternal grandfather, whom was more than a little pissed to here his son was dead. And that Rohan knew basically nothing about his Dad's origins besides the fact that India was "that one place we go to sometimes at Christmas or during the summer holidays to visit grandpa and grandma." Apparently, Rohan was poor ol' Gramps -only- Grandchild or heir apparent remaining, which was basically the worst possible scenario in his Grandfathers eyes. Mostly because his grandfather was a staunch traditionalist and supporter of genetic purity. And being somewhat of a racial mutt, Rohan was not seen as the ideal heir to carry on their centuries-old Ki Art variant of Bogar Varma Kalai. His grandfather still loved Rohan as a grand child, but up until now basically considered him "the last resort" so to speak, and was content to simply let Rohan's father carry on the legacy and teach it to whom he saw fit. Not to mention Rohan wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed so to speak. Still, Gramps decided that teaching it to Rohan was better than having it die with him, so he had Rohan move to India under the pretense of helping him on his pointless quest to find "the truth of his parents death."
And in a way, he did. Grandfather Battacharya, or just "Guru" as Rohan would quickly learn to call him, knew the whole car accident thing was probably just a natural occurrence-- People die to stupid shit all the time, it's just how life works. One of the first things he taught Rohan was to accept this, and let go of his whole quest for revenge shtick. After that, they got into -real- training. Rohan's "normal" way of thinking and acting were slowly stripped away from him, and his grandfather did his best to mold him into the ideal inheritor of Varma Kalai. The results were mixed. Eventually he deigned to start teaching him the Ki Art itself, putting him through rigorous physical and mental training before teaching him the foundations of the three aspects of Varma Kalai: Adi Murai, Vaasi Yoga, and Varma Vaithiyam. He also introduced him to the Martial Forest Coalition, and "drafted" him in so to speak. Rohan didn't really mind, not that it would have mattered if it did.
After he was sure Rohan had the basics, his grandfather did the equivalent of throwing your kids stuff out on the lawn and telling him to move the fuck out. Gave him a big speech about "finding your own way to develop" and to "come back when you've learned some shit" too. Very touching stuff. Rohan almost shed a tear. He tried living in India for a bit, but turns out 19 year old Rohan didn't really like civilian life in India, so he decided to move back to the States and give that a try. Turns out it wasn't much better, but he was committed and didn't feel moving back was worth the hassle. Since then he kind of moves around every few months ago, never really staying in one place for very long. His marketable skills are not great, so between taking assignments for the Martial Forest Coalition he usually works part time as a masseur and a yoga instructor. Gotta make money for what you're good at, after all.
STYLE INFORMATION
Style Name: Bogar Varma Kalai
Specialties: Ki Manipulation through Varma [Pressure Points]
History:
Varma Kalai is one of the oldest martial arts in the world, predating even the ancient Kalaripayattu. [Although it is sometimes considered or confused with Southern Kalaripayattu] Originally developed by ancient siddhars, the teachings of Varma Kalai were later learnt by Bodhidharma, the father of Zen Buddhism. Through him the teachings of Varma Kalai would spread to the east, becoming the origin of many martial arts and practices, from Shalon Meditiation to Kung Fu, Karate, Tai Chi, Acupressure, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, and more. The original art itself incorporates all these aspects, focusing on the manipulation of Varma, both in opponents and in ones self, to achieve the optimum result.
The art is one of the most secretive in the world, very rarely being taught to outsiders. Of the three major schools of Varma Kalai, only one, Agathiyar is generally available outside of the birthplace of the style, Tamil Nadu. One is still shrouded in secrecy, known to exist but the style completely unknown to the outside world. (Ramadevar Varma Kalai) Rohan's family are traditional practitioners of Bogar Varma Kalai, the most versatile, scientific, and individualistic of the three schools. Specifically, they practice a unique form of the martial arts that practices Ki Arts, as opposed to the majority of the style which is purely a martial art. Largely grounded in the innovation of the user, Bogar Varma Kalai places equal importance on all forms of unarmed combat and depends on the practitioner to expand upon the foundations they are taught to develop a style they are most comfortable with.
Due to the dauntingly traditional manner with which the style is practiced, taught and safeguarded against outsiders, the school itself has gone through few changes in known history. It has neither surged in popularity nor been persecuted or diminished at any point in it's ancient history, maintaining a small school consisting mostly of descendants of previous masters. In this way, Varma Kalai can be said to be passed down mostly through family tradition throughout the years rather than taught as an expanding school, although the occasional outsider is let in should they show themselves to be devoted enough.

Name: Focusing Bind
Rank: D
Description: An item worn by Rohan, given to him by his grandfather. It is a simple piece of cloth in appearance really, usually tied around ones waist, arm, or wherever they feel like keeping it to be honest. Rohan usually keeps it wrapped around one of his legs as it is the least noticeable and least limiting place to wear it, although he has been known to wear it elsewhere on occasion. The cloth is enchanted, a form of Arma Maga as Magicians might call it although it is more spiritual and less "enchanted" in nature. The Bind is purpose is aimed at those whom are new to manipulating their Ki, and helps increase the efficiency of Ki used in simple actions, from simply walking and eating to running. In the cases of mundane actions, this simply serves to help train his body to better accommodate higher Ki flow. However, the Bind also greatly increases the efficiency when using Ki Techniques, and training this way is much more effective then simply wearing it while you walk about. When using Ki Techniques, the cost is reduced by 2 Ki units so long as the Bind is worn.
Uniforms:
Name: Travelling Uniform
Description: A modified version of the traditional uniform of his clan, optimized for ease of travel and to restrict mobility as little as possible. Also leaves him shirtless, which he maintains is a mobility thing but honestly is probably more on the lines of "got used to not wearing a shirt and isn't going back now."
CAPABILITIES
Skills:
Name: Adi Murai [Unarmed Combat]
Description: Sometimes known as "the science of combat", Adi Murai is a lethal unarmed style focused around pressure point strikes and finding the most efficient manner with which to combat an enemy. One of the oldest Ki Art styles in the world, Adi Murai is incredibly effective at disabling foes by striking pressure points and weak areas of the body, allowing them to disable the foes physical body and their Ki/Od.
Rank: E
Name: Vaasi Yoga
Description: The Yogic implement of Varma Kalai, Vaasi Yoga is an ancient style of Yoga supposedly originating from Shiva himself. It focused on attaining the pinnacle of well being by removing all the waste from ones body. Deep meditation should only be attempted in the presence of a Guru, but the practices associated with the Yoga can still greatly increase ones well being. Enhanced physical fitness, mental clarity, and a healthy flow of Ki throughout the body are all byproducts of these practices. Regualrly adhering to these practices can add 2 units to the max Ki of a practitioner, as well as increase the regeneration rate of Ki by up to 30%. Their rank of Ki must be equal to or lower than the rank of this skill. At higher levels of this skill, practitioners can manipulate their metabolism and control their appetite, intake of breath, and other bodily functions.
Rank: E
Name: Varma Vaithiyam
Description: The opposite side of the coin from Adi Murai, Varma Vaithiyam is the art of healing the body and the soul through the manipulation of pressure points. Usually used to treat things such as paralysis, nervous disorders, or other physical maladiers. Advanced practitioners with a firm understanding of Ki can even use this art to manipulate and restore the Ki within others. Rohan however is not even close to this level, capable of at best of giving a pretty good massage.
Rank: F
Abilities:
Name: Ki Manipulation
Description: The ability to manipulate Ki. This is made possible through training and meditation to unlock a person's Ki Center. By doing so allows the practitioner to reach superhuman levels of fitness through the manipulation of Ki. Or even allowing a Ki Artist to infuse a weapon with Ki in order to enhance it to perform techniques.
Rank: E
Name: Ki Sense
Description: From being able to control the body's Ki, the user is now sensitive to Ki signatures around them. Through such sensitivity, the Artists can now sense people's presences by this and be able differentiate one signature against each person. The term "killing intent" comes from this as usually one's Ki rises with the intent to cause harm. All Artists have at least E rank at it and sometimes do not increase it as they are busy trying to perfect their fighting techniques. This is why some of them go to the I.A.C.S.B. for experience. Extremely high levels of this ability may even lead to a blind man being able to fight better than he could actually see if he had working eyes.
Rank: E
Name: Sixth Sense
Description: The natural talent to sense danger through various sensory details no matter how small. This may come from having a form of "Sixth Sense", intuition, or other senses.
Rank: E
