It was a strange feeling to Lili to be in the IACSB’s main offices again. Unfamiliar, and unpleasant. She’d been there before, certainly; when she’d first been conscripted – but she didn’t really relish ending up there again. While she had gotten accustomed to the urban lifestyle in her main line of work for the organisation, this sort of corporate space was even more alien to her than the grimy alleys she’d made her home over the past few years. Suits and ties all around her, clean monochrome walls and floors; the artificial chill of the air-conditioning. Yes, that last one was exactly what was bugging her – it wasn’t real. The white three-piece suit that settled upon her form was the only comforting thing here; amongst this professional façade. It made her feel sick. Still, she had a job to do. The short hybrid’s stern stroll through the halls earned more than a few turned heads – honestly, it didn’t bother her so much; it was a familiar feeling now. She didn’t much care so long as there was no hostility. But, it certainly didn’t help her settle down… right now, she just wanted to be alone again; to curl up and cook or read or something secluded like that. That had to wait, though – she was already waiting, so it would be awful to be selfish like that. Perhaps it was the manners of a mutt like her first handler once liked to say, but Lili did not think highly of failing an order; no matter how benign. Stopping at one of the grey doors in the offices, Lili gave a polite knock. As most of the lower ranking members were on location instead, the offices cycled their owners often; making it hard for their owners to settle down unless they became desk jockeys instead. So thus her job was all the more important – Lili could already tell her handler was about as unsettled here as the little wolf herself when they’d first returned to the headquarters the day before. Honestly, she didn’t totally get all that nature-loving business… but as an ex-farmhand she at least some sympathy for the attitude. Her relationship with her latest handler had been an odd one – given she was a hybrid and a straight-forward one at that, she was generally left as an easy assignment for low-ranking members who were keen on that sort of leadership work. Honestly, Lili probably couldn’t function without someone in that position, but she had yet to really care for the presence of her superiors; until now, at least. This one was curious; a kind soul who’d treated Lili with unforeseen respect over the few months they’d worked together so far. It wasn’t like Lili hadn’t been treated kindly before, but usually her stoic attitude drove a hole between her and other people… and up until meeting her, the wolf had somewhat relished that fact. But now… well, it was a strange feeling; like so many others. Why was she knocking at the door? Why was she bringing tea? Why did she care at all? She wasn’t entirely sure. That simple world of grey and splattered red had changed, for some reason. It was a warm sensation. But – what if it changed again? Lili’s brow furrowed at the thought. It was for the best if she did not humour such things… she had enough grey skies ahead of her for now. It seemed some things would never change, though; as the wannabe werewolf’s patience finally ran out and simply threw open the door with her usual blunt approach – a whole four seconds of forced politeness, a new record. ”Tea. I tried harder this time.” remarked Lili as she set the tray of tea beside her boss of sort’s table – for now it seemed to just be the two of them, but given the office was shared there was no doubt more folks on the way. The tea at least smelled good this time… Lili liked cooking, but doing things that required a finer touch like making tea as per her handler’s tastes was an utter headache for her. Usually she’d just give up with this sort of thing, but… she wanted to try harder for her. It was a bit fun. Her newest example of Earl Grey gently steamed before her… probably a bit too much water again. But she’d really tried! Giving a slight huff to herself, the girl stood attentively aside. ”Any news on our next job yet? I don’t like it here.”

It is far too cramped in this place. No open air, no plants, no wild animals, just the working spaces of men. Not only that, but I was not free to wear my usual clothing, nor carry my bow. Instead, I wore a suit, dull black and white with low grade cloth that did not breathe. At least they let me wear a skirt instead of pants, or else it would be even more uncomfortable than I already was. This place was uncomfortable as is, with so many people and so many customs so different than that of my home, and so many strange whirring machines whose functions I could only begin to grasp. In fact, in front of me sat one, a machine apparently called a desktop computer, which was used for browsing something called the internet and for instantaneous communication with other people. However, it was not working at the moment. For some reason no matter how much I interacted with it, it would not respond. This was rather vexing, as I had asked the higher ups to just take it out of my office if I had to be here, yet they had denied my request and told me to learn to use it. If only it was as easy as they made it out to be.
If it were not for the fact that my family was counting on me to gain influence here, I would have long since left this place. However, for the sake of my mother and father, I could not just abandon my duty, no matter how much I wanted to. They had risked so much in order to be together, and because of that risk, I was born. So I have to pay that back no matter what.
Three months ago I came to this place, the I.A.S.C.B., under orders from my family to rise in rank and gain influence so that our house may raise in prestige and influence. I did not understand why they wanted it, as we had been doing fine alone and unknown before this, however I could not disobey the elders in the family, after all, I was in a tenuous place with them as it stands, so for the sake of my parents and siblings, I had to perform excellently for their sake. Which led me to the situation I was in now. I had expressed interest in a leadership position here, and the person who had been interviewing me had mentioned that they had just the duty for me. I was to be the handler of a hybrid werewolf girl by the name of Lili von Brandt, though I would be the same rank as her, it would be my duty to make sure that she would stay in check. I was thrilled to be put with another hybrid like myself, and one that was like a dog no less. I love animals of all types, so going in, I was quite excited and had many images of how it would go in my head.
However, most of these were quickly shattered upon meeting the girl. Being a canine Hybrid, I had assumed she would have a lot of cute, dog like tendencies and be quite energetic, much like the labradors we kept for hunting at our mountain villa. However, she was nothing like that. She was a very, quiet, very melancholy girl, who seemed like she had seen her fair share of hardship. However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized I had been just naive with my expectations. After all, unlike myself, many hybrids had very poor lives, being mistreated, distrusted, and sometimes seriously abused by others out of fear. It was then that I resolved myself to bring some happiness to this girl's life, no matter how small. All living beings deserve to have kindness shown to them, and just because you are different does not mean you are an exception.
As such, I spent the last three months working with this girl , trying to get her to open her heart to me, even a little, so that she could once again feel kindness. And it seemed to be working, as she seemed to be warming up, ever so slightly, day by day, week by week. This was all the encouragement I needed to keep going, And today was no exception, no matter how uncomfortable or frustrated with the machine in front of me I was.
As a way to get closer to the girl, I had been teaching her to brew tea, and she had been improving quite a bit lately. At first, the tea she made was barely drinkable and was essentially colored water, but now, she was getting to the point where it was almost as good as when I made it. So, in order to both calm my nerves a bit and to set up an opportunity to praise her, I had asked her to get me some tea while I phoned the tech department for the third time in these past few days while I was here. It really seemed like I kept them guys at IT rather busy, and caused them quite a lot of trouble, and I felt quite bad about it.
As I was considering how to make it up to the poor guys at IT who I continuously burdened with extra work, I heard a knock on the door, and before I was able to get up and open it, Lili came walking in, as brash as usual, and announced that she had brought tea, and that she had tried harder this time. "Thank you very much, Lili. If you wouldn't mind setting it down next to me, it would be excellent, thank you," I responded to the rather melancholic wolf girl. I then proceeded to pour myself a cup of tea, and then mix in the right amount of milk and sugar into it, and took a sip of it, testing for quality. It was quite good, much better than her last attempt, with only the slightest hint that a bit too much water had been used, and would have been totally unnoticeable to anyone less knowledgeable in tea than myself. "You definitely did try harder, Lili. The tea is excellent. You have almost gotten down the right amount of water needed to make it. You have done quite well, and I appreciate it greatly," I said to Lili, before getting up and patting her on the head as a reward for a job well done.
After patting the wolf girl on the head for a good amount of time as a reward, I returned to my seat and answered the wolf girl's question about whether or not we had a mission yet or not. "Unfortunately, I do not believe so, however, I would have to wait for IT to be completely sure, as I could have a....whats it called again...c-mail? with orders for our next mission on this infernal machine, however it will not respond to anything I am telling it to do. It probably is broken again, these things are so fragile, I have no idea why they are so insitant on using them," I said, showing my disdain for the infernal contraption mocking me from its position on my desk, "I do wish they would hurry up and give us an assignment, however, as I want to be out of here just as much as you do, and no longer have to wear these annoyingly uncomfortable clothes. The least they could do is order some better fabric for them if we are forced to wear them," I complained idly to my partner.
With that said and done, all I could do is wait for the guys at IT to get down here and beat this damned contraption into submission so it would work again.

"Edwin Melchiott: Skilled hacker, technological genius. A government asset - a survivor."
Edwin paused, blasting away another digital faceless goon on his screen - he probably should have been working, considering he was in one of the TAMRD offices, but he found himself unable to care less. "And right now, goddamn tech support." he muttered grimly. How the hell had it all turned out like this again? Granted, he was in the employ of the IACSB as he had literally nowhere else to go, but Edwin figured at least by now he'd have been trusted with something. Instead, as one of the lowest rungs in the TAMRD, he had no choice but to suck it up and take whatever the higher-ups in his department either had no interest in or no time for - and Edwin's anti-social nature already put him on a low rung, even amongst the low rungs in the TAMRD, as if people enjoyed trying to get under his skin. He wouldn't have minded so much if there was something interesting to take care of, but as of his joining, there had been nothing for him to do but fix people's computers because apparently nobody but him had any clue how computers worked. They had to have hired him for something better than this. right?
Edwin turned to hear his phone ringing. He took off his headphones, again idly wondering if it would be someone with something interesting for him to do, and again expecting to be disappointed when it turned out it was nothing but routine maintenance. He let it ring a couple of times, but the number was blocked. "Yep, disappointment is about to ensue." he thought as he picked up the phone. "IT, have you tried turning it off and on again?" he said into the phone, not even bothering to hide his inability to care who heard it. But even he'd under-estimated how disappointed he was about to be. "...oh come on, you have to be kidding me. Again?" Edwin's tone was incredulous. "Does that damn elf have any idea how a computer works? Can she even operate a toaster without setting it on fire?!"
The particular elf in question - a lady named Arwen Drake - was infamous through the lower rungs of the TAMRD, if only because her computer apparently broke so regularly that she was considered more powerful than an EMP. She was also known for being a skilled magician and archer, and - as far as Edwin had heard anyway - stunningly beautiful. Besides that, she was a member of the SID and seemed to be loved and admired by the higher-ups in her own department, at least as far as the rumours went, so her future seemed set in stone. Despite all those points, Edwin felt that he'd been lucky at this point that she had always been rendered someone else's problem, but unfortunately it looked like he'd finally drawn the short stick. "Come on, there's heaps of people who'd rather spend time with her, have one of them fix it! Let them ogle her for half an hour or something!" Edwin complained into the phone, but of course it fell on deaf ears, as he was again told that he knew the rules - it was his turn to deal with it, and if he didn't do it he was happy to take it to the higher-ups, who would refuse to listen. "Ugh...fine. Fine. Yes. Yes, I'll let you know when it's done. No. Yes. Yes. Ye-look, can I go and get this done already? I can? Thank you."
Edwin put his face in his palms and sighed. He'd always preferred, if he had to do any work, to be the nameless voice at the other end of a phone line, or an Internet conversation. Unfortunately, as he'd learnt, life didn't often give you the easy choices. "Nothing for it, though. Guess I'd better get this over and done with." he thought to himself. He opened the file cabinet nearby, picking up a CD case with a message scribbled on the front in permanent texta - 'Backup CDs'. He'd made these a while ago, after dealing with initial problems people had, and he was thankful for having them, they'd made things so much quicker sometimes. Half the time it was easier to just reinstall whatever program had apparently broken this time then spend half an hour finding out what the problem was.
He walked out of his small office and trudged down the corridors. Nobody said hello to him, and he was sure he noticed a few people step to the side as he walked towards the SID offices. Not that he minded, he was well-known for not being a social personality. Probably that one time that someone had said they'd steal his glasses and Edwin had bluntly responded that he'd shoot them. Maybe, he didn't know or care. It was a distraction towards doing his job, which as it turned out he'd arrived at sooner than expected. The offices of the legendary EMP Elf, if the guy giving him the order had gotten the address right. He banged his fist on the door. "Yo, it's the IT guy. Anyone in?" he called out, adjusting his glasses slightly.

Arwen’s compliments earned an awkward squirm from the girl before her, utterly unsure of how to handle this sort of attention even after a few months of it. It was weird… it reminded her a little of home. A disquieting reception, but not a dissatisfying one. It felt good; her canine side certainly relished it – but her human side, her feral side; they seemed to writhe in it. Just looking down a little, Lili instinctively anticipated the little show of affection; twitching slight as her head was rubbed. It was certainly a nice sensation! Especially from Arwen! But, she struggled to show it. Eventually, though; the ongoing attention squeezed a tiny smile from the wannabe-wolf… but the joy seemed to end almost as quickly as the patting did. She wanted to feel it just a little longer… Thankfully, Lili was promptly distracted by the rest of Arwen’s musings, although she was rather disinterested… talking was hard, let alone in English. And that British accent, humph; it was hard to deal with sometimes. German sounded nicer… and learning English had been a struggle as it was – having to deal with being half-feral certainly didn’t help with that. Couldn’t everyone be as frank as her? But, then again, Arwen kind of sounded nice with all her banter… hum, it was weird. Err, but she should probably reply to the half-elf at some point, shouldn’t she? ”Just talk to command yourself. I don’t see what the point is.” remarked Lili flatly, just seeming a bit irritated after her hesitation – while she didn’t struggle with electronics quite so much, her simple-minded nature meant anything unintuitive was a brick wall for her. A brick wall she would probably try and punch. ”You find those clothes unpleasant? They seem warmer than your usual.” added Lili, unable to help but grumble a bit about Arwen’s usual tastes… she came from Germany, where showing your midriff was a disaster waiting to happen in the colder months; so unsurprisingly the half-elf’s apparent taste in fashion was rather baffling to her. Much like most things. The knock at the door earned Lili’s attention, and having been standing and not distracted by tea she was the first to open it – the man behind it earned a quick glare, but nary a word. Lili was not overly pleased to have her alone-time with Arwen interrupted. But still, it was to be expected. Glancing him up and down, the girl just trotted back a few steps and pointed at the computer nearest to Arwen; seeming to assume that was enough guidance.

My cute partner very much enjoyed the praise I heaped upon her and the reward I gave, showing one of her rare smiles as I did so. I was quite pleased with that, and reminded myself to do it again later when I had the opportunity. She was definitely much better when she was smiling than when she was frowning, that was definitely for sure.
"That is part of the problem, my dear Lili. They are TOO warm. I much prefer things that are cooler, and are far more breathable. I always am a bit warm, probably as a long term result of being a fire mage. So clothes as warm and unbreathing as this are extremely uncomfortable, and if I had to perform magic in this, I would absolutely DIE of heat exhaustion," I explained to my canine companion. It was natural that she would not have a problem with these clothes, having been from Germany, after all. It was quite cold there, and if it were not for my magic, I would probably not find these clothes not too bad either, at least if they were made from a better fabric, though probably in a bit brighter color.
Suddenly, both of our attentions were drawn to the door after hearing a knock and a small introduction from a man claiming to be from IT coming from the other side of the door. I began to get up to answer it, however my partner got to the door first, and was rather curt with the poor man, backing up a few steps and pointing at the computer as if that was all the cue he needed.
Clicking my tongue at my partner, I began to scold her about her rather curt behavior. "Now, now, Lili, that is no way to greet someone. How many times do I have to tell you to use your words when you greet someone that you haven't met before," I scolded, waving my finger and leaning over in an unintentionally cute manner as I did so.
After that, I turned to the IT guy who had just walked in and quickly took an evaluation of the boy. He was a bit shorter than average, and appeared to be in his late teens. He was rather pale, and had rather unkempt black hair and brown eyes hidden behind a pair of spectacles, which appeared to have a cord of some kind on them, probably to keep them from being lost if they were to fall off of his face. I didn't recognize the boy, so he probably had not been down to fix my computer before, so I began to introduce myself to my new acquaintance.
"Hello there, my name is Arwen Drake, and this is my partner Lili von Brandt," I said, gesturing toward my canine companion, "I do apologize for the bother, however my computer is not working again. I know I must be a nuisance to you guys at IT, and I am truly sorry for it, I just can not seem to get a grasp on how these infernal machines work, and I always seem to do something wrong when I am using them," I said to the boy in front of me, my ears drooping a bit as I apologized for the nuisance I must be to them.
"If you would like, I have some fresh Earl Grey tea, and I have quite a few different tea snacks here if you are interested. I just brought some gingersnaps I baked today in for today's tea time. Feel free to try them if you like, they are in the top left-hand drawer of my desk," I said with a smile on my face.
Suddenly, I remembered the vital question that I had forgotten to ask earlier and felt extremely silly for doing so. "I'm sorry, but I do not believe I caught your name, my apologies if you have said it, and had not heard in my excitement at meeting someone new," I said, my ears first twitching in excitement, then drooping as I apologized for not hearing his name if he had said it. Hopefully he won't be too angry at me about breaking my computer again, though it is understandable if it would be irritating that I am bothering him.

The door opened surprisingly quickly, at least for what Edwin had considered. However, what stood before him was not an elf, but what seemed to be a hybrid werewolf. "God help me, if Geoff gave me the wrong address again I swear I will kick his ass from here to Chicago and back..."
Fortunately, as it turned out, the wolf girl stepped to the side, pointing at the computer, and revealed to Edwin the infamous EMP Elf herself, the infamous Arwen Drake. The first thing that Edwin noticed is that people hadn't been lying - she was stunningly beautiful. Her beauty was radiant enough that Edwin had to resist the urge to shield his eyes. But at least he'd had some warning of that. When the wolf girl - Lili ignored him, Arwen actually told her off. Edwin blinked - was Arwen just...not aware that was how people usually responded to him? Was that actually possible?
Even worse for Edwin's sensbilities was when Arwen started fervently apologising to him - to him of all people! - for being such a nuisance. Granted, that was what he thought of everyone, but no-one in his entire life had ever been so...apologetic for it, even going so far as to offer him tea and biscuits! Edwin just stood there for a few seconds trying to process everything, before he realised sooner or later he was going to have say something, and get out of here before anything else weird happened. "Uh, no...no, let me just...check your computer." Edwin muttered and moved over to it, leaning over and tapping a few buttons, and absorbing himself in something more familiar to him - the workings of technology.
From his initial tests, it didn't seem like anything in particular was wrong with the computer. The operating system was booting up just fine, so that wasn't the problem - it at least seemed to be loading. It didn't take long to realise what was probably the problem - the computer was failing to connect to the Internet. In a flurry of fingers, he brought up networking information, and it seemed to not connect to anything. Edwin blinked - why was it just not showing any data? Unless...
"Oh, you have to be kidding me." Edwin looked around the back of the computer - somehow, a blue cable had fallen out of the back of the computer, and was lying on the floor nearby it. "Of course. The first thing everyone should do that nobody remembers to..." Edwin muttered as he plugged the cable back into the computer. With a few lights flashing on the back of the computer, Edwin stood back up. "Right, that should do it. Something knocked the cable connecting this computer to the Internet out. I guess you'll want to check to make sure it's fixed, but otherwise I'm done here, unless there's something else you want?" Edwin asked, hoping that there was nothing else because the almost ridiculously sunny nature of Arwen was really starting to get to him...

The half-elf’s complaints rather flew over Lili’s head – she didn’t really care, honestly. Whining about magic and breathing and heat; whatever! Lili has no magic, so she had no idea what she was on about. Unsurprisingly empathy just wasn’t a part of the little wolf’s personality… well, she tried sometimes. If it was such a big deal, shouldn’t the other magi around the place grumble about it too? This all just seemed silly… but Arwen seemed a bit of a pampered girl, so maybe that was to be expected. Still, she at least listened before she was interrupted by the new appearance – and some scolding. Although Arwen’s demeanour was relatively friendly, Lili’s domestic side took the punishment harshly, immediately dimming from her hint of happiness to her usual frown; perhaps even more pronounced than usual. She’d been bad… the shame welled up in her immediately. Ah, she hated this personable business; couldn’t she just get back to hitting people? Now she’d upset Arwen too… she just wanted to curl up on a chair and sulk now. Stepping aside from the IT representative as he worked his magic, the girl just sat down, looking as stoic as ever. Thankfully it seemed their visitor might be short-lived – unless Arwen willed otherwise… she was going to chat or something, wasn’t she? The wolf gave a slight sigh of irritation; practically inaudible. Ugh, more people talking and making her think and doing things! She just wanted to go outside and break something. Or maybe get something to eat… anything but deal with more interpersonal bullshit. Maybe she could slip out and call her old friend or go to the gym while Arwen did her nicety-nicety business. But, then that’d mean Arwen would be hanging around someone else… her handler shouldn’t be stuck with some goon on her own. Hmph… Deciding to hold the line, the girl slumped on her chair in resignation before trying to find something to do – thankfully, she had come somewhat prepared as she slipped into her diminutive bag. She didn’t care for bringing much equipment from Germany with her, but she at least came prepared. Bringing out her revolver alongside a little toolkit, the wolf began to methodically take the gun apart; as if it were some kind of form of meditation – no doubt Arwen had seen this little show more than a few times now. Hearing the half-elf going offering things to this visitor only made the wolf's frown and furrowed brow become a little more pronounced. Ugh! She just wanted to shake her by the shoulders - 'Look at me!' But, alas; that wasn't really good conduct here, was it? For now, the would-be canine just buried herself in her usual hobby...

It seemed the boy was not very used to people, seeing as it seemed he was utterly floored by my basic show of kindness. I wonder why such a thing would be so unusual for him? I guess the people who he dealt with on a usual basis were not so friendly as myself. Well then, I resolved to myself, I guess I will have to be the person to be nice and cheerful for him, much like I had to for my cute partner.
As I considered how to best try to get the boy used to polite company, he quickly made his way over to the infernal contraption on my desk, and began to do various things to it, before muttering to himself about something that I did not quite catch, and plugging a cord back into the back of the machine, and declared it fixed, and asked if I needed him for anything else. This little comment opened a path for me to get to know the boy a little better, and I took it.
"I would really love it if you stayed for tea, but if you have to get back to work, I completely understand. However, I must simply know your name before you leave, as I do not believe you have introduced yourself, sir," I said, pointing out the fact that the boy had yet to introduce himself, probably out of what seemed to be utter amazement that he was being treated so well. "Also, if you would like, I could bake a pastry or tea snack of your choice, I can make pretty much anything, so feel free to request whatever suits your fancy. After all, you did take your time to come down here and help me with such a trivial thing, I know it must have been a nuisance, as you probably have plenty of other more urgent matters to attend to, and I am truly sorry for taking up your time," I continued, trying to get the boy to stay or at least let me do something to repay him for his time.
As I waited for his response, I noticed that Lili had taken the scolding more harshly than I had intended, and seemed to be sulking, as she was cleaning her gun as she usually did when she sulked. Walking over to my cute partner, I patted her on the head while she was focused on her gun cleaning and said, "No need to take it so harshly, I'm not mad, I just want you to learn and grow as a person, after all, you are my precious partner, and I would hate to see you in trouble because you don't act in a civil manner. I just want to make sure that doesn't happen. So please, just try to do better next time, ok? If you do really well I will take you out for whatever you want to eat," I said to the sulking wolf girl, trying to cheer her up. After all, I couldn't leave my partner to sulk like this, she was too important a person to let that happen. We had to trust each other and support each other or else we wouldn't survive the tasks we were given, we needed each other.
With that done, I returned my attention to the young IT boy in the office and simply said, "How about it, would you like to stay for afternoon tea? I have a very delicious brew of Earl Grey that my cute partner just made, and tea is better with more people, after all."

There were times that Edwin wondered what it would be like, to be able to connect with people as easily as to connect wires. What it would be like to be able to be blissfully ignorant, and pretend that he could get along so easily with people as most people did - even just to be able to understand and sympathise with them. This was definitely one of those times, he noted, as Arwen insisted on continuing to talk to him, much to his discomfort. She seemed to want to keep talking to him, and Edwin just had no idea how to react. She asked his name, and in a hope that it would get her to stop talking just long enough for him to collect his thoughts, he managed to force himself not to mutter as he responded with, "E-Edwin. Edwin...Melchiott."
It was funny - he'd always meant for his name to be known to the world, but he hadn't imagined that it would be quite like this.
Unfortunately, even that didn't seem to be able to stop her, as she immediately seemed to launch further into offering him more. Pastries, teas, snacks, she just didn't seem to stop. Edwin tried to mutter something about not wanting any of it, but either the elf didn't hear him or didn't care to pay attention. She seemed to want him to hang around, something that Edwin had no intention of doing, as he felt ridiculously uncomfortable. He had to get out of here before the woman drew him into a social gathering that would make him lose his mind.
Fortunately, he noticed her decide to go talk to the wolf girl - apparently her protégé - and while they talked, he figured he finally had a way out. "At last!" he thought to himself. He turned to leave when suddenly, something metallic in the wolf girl's lap caught his attention with a steely grasp. Immediately, all notions of any other worry seemed to disappear like flights of fancy. He leaned in slightly closer to get a better look. "Is that..." he started, with a tone of incredulity, before pushing his glasses slightly closer to his face to get a better look. "Mateba Model 6 Unica Autorevolver. Chambered for...looks like .357 Magnum rounds. A little disappointing, the .44 rounds do a better job, but still..." He looked up at Lili. "Where did you find one of these? I'd heard they were only made in the low thousands, maybe even hundreds!" For once in his life, Edwin was excited by the promise of finding something interesting in this goddamn place, something that he could actually utilise his knowledge about rather than loose cords and faulty programming. He didn't even notice Arwen continuing to talk.

Unfortunately Arwen’s attempts to keep the boy around just irritated Lili further – she really was a people person, wasn’t she? Definitely the opposite of Lili… but alas, the things we do for the ones we care for. The canine just focussed on her firearm; gently cleaning the barrel and relaxing as she settled into the familiar task. Guns were way more interesting than people… especially her pride and joy! Maybe she should call it Arwen? Ah, that would probably be a bit too creepy. How would the half-elf think of it, she wondered? Though, getting her to listen for more than ten seconds about something other than plants or animals or tea might be a struggle in-of itself. The girl’s pat on Lili’s head regained her focus, albeit once again being a bit annoyed to be distracted from her beloved hobby. Blah, blah, blah; personal development garbage – whatever, whatever! Lili didn’t care at all! She just wanted to do her job, and – t-take her out for something to eat? The silver-haired girl’s expression immediately softened ever-so-slightly, frowning a bit again albeit in pensiveness rather than annoyance. The poor wolf had a soft spot for food, admittedly… her strength came at quite a cost in terms of metabolism, so eating a lot was part of the deal; especially meat given her lupan heritage. Fast food especially was a treat to her… simple, but with that flicker of luxury that made Lili’s smile sparkle. Deciding to at least try and play nice, Lili already sat up and put her gun aside in order to pour a second cup of tea for their newfound visitor; only to be distracted by something far more exciting. Her eyes met Edwin’s – there was a certain spark between them; that realisation of understanding… a shared hobby, a shared passion! Well, at least in Lili’s case. This might give Arwen a headache, but if she put up with the half-elf talking on and on about magic and plants she could at least deal with Lili getting a chance to gush as well! ”.44 rounds make it hard to handle the recoil and suffer more from range, so they’re not ideal for an autorevolver like this that can deal with range better than most of those commercial models. .357 are lighter, easier to buy, and fit easier with the smoothened cylinder.” lectured Lili, finally speaking up around the boy; eyes sparkling with intensity only saved for beating people with her bat and gushing about her gun; ”I bought it from a collector in Germany. I got paid a lot early on when I was just doing cleaning work for the IACSB, but I don’t spend much. I think it was undervalued anyway. Takes a lot of upkeep and the trigger is a bit stiff, but I like the sound a lot. Punches through bone nicely.”Satisfied with her response, Lili settled back to her brand of meditation; unscrewing this and that until the revolver lay in piece before her – and then just started putting it back together again after a brief glance. ”It’s impractical. But, it shoots straight. And it’s fun to customise.” mumbled the wannabe-wolf thoughtfully; carefully replacing the cylinder mount; ”…better than a bow, anyway…”

After giving Lili a bit of encouragement, it seemed that she decided to take my advice to heart, and began to pour a cup of tea for the visitor when something excellent happened! It turned out that both Edwin and Lili shared a hobby, albeit one that i had no knowledge of, guns. The little wolf often gushed about her gun to me, so I knew the specifics of it, but I had no idea what it meant, so the conversations were rather one sided, with her talking about it, and me patiently listening, and enjoying the glimmer in her eye as she did so. She really did enjoy talking about her gun, even more so when she had someone who understood, it seems. Knowing that I would not be able to participate in this conversation, I smiled at the both of them, and politely excused myself, and sat down at my newly fixed computer, and clicked the button that brought up the messaging service...what was it called again, b-mail? I would have to ask the boy when I had the chance. In any case, I looked through my messages to find a few things that I had been advised not to open by IT, something along the lines of "spam" messages. How could a message be a type of canned meat? Or maybe the person just didn't like spam. I could understand the sentiment as I did not particularly like it either. However there was a message of note from command. After clicking it, I turned a little pale and checked the time. There was to be a briefing, not even half an hour from now, in the the administration building and we were to be there ready to go. Normally this would not be a problem, but given how well Edwin and Lili were getting along, I did not want to interrupt them. However, I had to be a model agent, my family was counting on me. I made my decision and began to speak, "I really do regret having to interrupt you two, however an order was in my email that we cannot just ignore. Lili, we have to be at a meeting in 15 minutes with our gear in the administrative building. I hope that is not too much trouble? I do apologize to both of you for the trouble, however we really ought to go," I say, showing my regret with my tone of voice, my ears drooping to emphasize the point. "I have to go get my bow and regular clothing, try to be on time, Lili," I say, as I make my way out the door, hurrying as fast as possible without outright sprinting in the office. I could not be late for this, it would be horrible on my record, and would hold me up in promotion, and even possibly cap me out. I could not let that happen. I had to do this, for my family, and especially my brothers and sisters so that they would not have to go through what I am now. I want them to live peacefully at home, and not have to ddeal with the horrors of the outside world, living a life of happiness with our mother and father. I would make sure that happened, even if it killed me.
